Mr Neff,
I am sure you have received many emails in regards but unfortunately you pinned yourself in a corner after commenting about the disappointment of missing the NCAAT. That conversation, while you would have to eat a little crow, the Clemson alum are looking at you to make the right decisions for all of our sports. Right now our Basketball leader is not a top Power5 coach and he needs to be given the opportunity to find a mid-tier team where he would be a perfect fit.
I was in school '88-93 with Cliff Ellis, had Elden C., Dale D., and had some of our best bball ever. As a student we would camp for 2-3days to get tickets to see great games against some of the best basketball schools in America and in the ACC. There was no contest that the ACC was by far the strongest conference in the Nation. If we had won 14 games then, we would probably be top 2-3 seed in the NCAAT. But you look at the results of the ACC after the first round of play and all ACC teams lost except Miami.
That said, our list of wins in the ACC are empty wins when our conference can't even make the sweet 16 or second round. Where does this stretch the season to be fantastic enough to retain CBB?
So CBB gets to keep his job one more year, but no extension which he doesn't deserve. How do you think our competition will use that for negative recruiting?? CBB will have a big X on his back for recruiting because coaches will tell every recruit that CBB will be fired in 2024, just look at his contract status.
Sorry for semi lengthy email but I have to setup current status to show how this will setup CBB for even bigger failure added to the fact that all fans know we will get the same in 2023. Fans are very tired of the lack of pressure to make our basketball program at least a common contender in the NCAAT and not 3x in 14yrs. Not be because CBB used Purnell's team to make it once. It's been 4yrs since we made the NIT and get embarrassed at home.
While I believe CBB is a great man, he is not a great fit for Clemson. Spend the money to get a new and exciting coach and look at the fandom increase, look at the arena fill up, look at the excitement of the students which are needed to fill the arena for mid-week games. There needs to be incentives for students to fill the arena during mid week games, give free hotdog and soda or something. Get a coach with exciting bball and not the boring variety of CBB.
I know you know your job better than I do, but I have seen packed arena's, I have seen students camping for tix, I have seen free popcorn, free pizza, free t-shirts, etc., and we students filled the arena when it held more fans.
You know your job, but may suggest that you are making a major mistake in retaining CBB. If he is 100% going to be fired next year, why wait? Get it over with and let's make the move. If we don't find the stud we want, let's ride one of his assistant coaches until we can make a great hire for 2024-25.
Time for change, make your stamp on the program.

Have my doubts this gets any attention but I figured enough emails and voices suggesting changing coaches could pressure Neff to enforce or to give more definitive action based on performance. If nothing else, I want Neff to feel some pressure based on his own words!

For accuracy, not all ACC teams lost in the first except for Miami. Duke and Pitt made it to the second round. And Miami made it to the sweet 16. Also, in ‘88#93 we played 14 conference games so 14 wins in conference play isn't comparable between now and then.

I have emailed and got a very through, courteous response last year. I’m sure it was edited from a stock reply it did have some personalized answers to my specific questions. I wrote again last week and have received no response.

I too, emailed Neff last year, and like you, I received a polite response.
I emailed him again this year and - again like you - have not received a response - yet.
We shall see. I am sure the number of letters is overwhelming.

Reads like a first grader’s essay. Misspelled words, poor punctuation, poor grammar and too many shortcuts (i.e. tix instead of tickets). If you are going to send a childish email to our AD, please proofread it and do it properly. Also, don’t drink while you do it.
Don’t know what you anti-Brownell bunch are trying to accomplish. The decision has been made for now. Brownell is coming back. By this time next year, your little diatribe will have been long ago deleted.

Nah we will be having these same discussions next year. It’s like clock work.
Sharing opinions with the AD if you are an IPTAY member should be expected by Neff. Comes with the territory.
Hopefully a few of you will also email Neff and let him know how great you think Brownell is doing and if we can give him an extension and a million dollar raise everything should be ok.
Also the 40 million sounds like a great investment…well done sir!
Nothing like a pat on the back occasionally to show your support!

Dear Mr. Neff:
Despite the complaints from a small but vocal (and ignorant) faction of so-called "fans", it appears to this observer (who has followed Clemson basketball in person since 1987 and on radio and TV since the 60's) that Brad Brownell has actually done a helluva job this year in a grossly underrated ACC. The only knock on the guy is the black cloud of bad luck that has hung over his head and started to clear a bit this year. The problem is the lack of support for basketball at CLEMSON.

The ACC is absolute hot garbage unfortunately. Thankfully Isaiah Wong didn’t leave Miami last year or there wouldn’t be any ACC teams left in the tourney.

I emailed him soon after he got the job and expressed my dissatisfaction with our basketball program. I got a polite answer. I emailed him months later and got no response.
