Terrible advice. Kid could’ve thrived in Reilly offense.

I think sometime after Ngata declared, he made a statement that right or wrong, it's been his dream to play in the NFL and he was moving forward to try to achieve that goal, not looking back and second guessing his decision to declare early. I think he figured out after it was too late that it may have been better to stay in college another year.

Think he thought he would get drafted instead of looking at his production over the years at clemson, free agent now , more likely won't make a roster but oh well, i don't feel sorry for him cause it was his choice should have came back and hoped for a big year and improved his stock

Can't blame a guy

That is ready to move on with life and take his shot at the next level.
Yeah, I wouldn't say that was a wise decision but I'm not a P5 D1 athlete that's put in 4 years of work and also had to fight injuries along the way just to stay on the field.
Honestly, maybe he even wanted it this way in the sense that, as a UDFA, he'd get to choose his destination vs hoping another year might land him in the right spot to thrive.
Best of luck to him.

I agree can’t blame the guy but no one wants to be a FA. Everyone wants to be drafted and not be a FA signee. Only thing I’ll disagree with, wish him the best of luck!

Usually better to be an UDFA than a really late round pick because you get to pick the team you join from amongst the suitors.
Late round picks may get picked by a team that doesn't really have a spot for them and they are screwed.

This is the truth. getting drafted late offers few benefits over being an undrafted free agent

Not one kid from that state has panned out. They are all soft. Constantly injured and not mentally tough. Apparently not smart either.

He is a grown man who makes his own decisions and has to live with the consequences. Anyone with half a brain knew it was a bad idea so maybe there were other considerations. Wish him the best and hope he has his degree

He wouldn’t even be eligible to come back if it wasn’t for the stupid Covid bonus year rule. He needed to move on and try to get a career started whether it works out or not in the NFL. We also would have to be pulling another scholarship from somewhere had be returned. We are still 2 over.

The good thing about guys like Ngata is there are more options and avenues to get to the NFL wit the XFL and USFL. A lot of guys from those leagues have gotten camp invites. Ngata was ready to move o and best of luck to him.

It's wild to me that fans never seem to consider that maybe after 4 years a guy is just done with college.

Ngata sat by me at a basketball game after he declared. Very nice polite young man. said he had family issues that prompted him into going pro. perhaps there is/was a financial issue. reports are he got a $30K bonus and $200K guaranteed salary, not make good, guaranteed. would another year at CU have helped him? No way to know for sure. at any rate, he's gone now, and by his account for a legit reason. He got paid, and if he did have family issues, he can go a long way resolving them with that money. Can't we just wish him good luck?

He has a degree and is 22 years old. The NFL doesn’t love 23 year olds with injury history if he came back for another year. He signed a good UDFA deal so this was the best outcome for him all things considered.

He was signed, so he is getting a shot. It remains to be seen if it was a good or bad decision. Everybody talks about how much more someone could have made by waiting a year. They never talk about the money that they miss out on for that year or getting beyond their rookie contract a year earlier. There is more to it than how much a kid makes per year. Even if they don't come out better financially some young men are just ready to move on from the responsibilities of being a scholar athlete.

In signing a free agent contract with the Eagles one thing can be assured - they will give him a legitimate shot at making it - his skill set if he pans out with them could land him a 4-6 spot on their final roster for next season! And yes, he could have benefited very much from another season with the Tigers!

Ngata declared before we hired Riley. We'll never know if that change would have changed his decision, but can you blame a guy for leaving an offense as stagnant as what we were under Streeter?

I believe he made the right decision based on the circumstances.
Could have been money issues.
Could be he just doesn't like college at all. This is the case for a lot of athletes.
Could be that getting injured so often makes him believe it's now or never.
I wish him the best!
