What's so great about the Big Ten?! I don't get it.

Head to head against the ACC this year, the Big Ten went 1-3, I believe.
UNC beat Illinois Wake Forest beat Indiana Pitt beat Penn State
and
Northwestern beat Duke
All year long, all we have heard is that the Big Ten is the best conference. They have two really good teams (OSU and Mich), two good teams (PSU and Wisconsin), two decent teams in Iowa and Nebraska, and the remaining teams are below average to bad. Top to bottom I would put the ACC up against them all day long. What am I missing?

I guess the "great thing" you mention is winning a couple of those games they have been losing. To that, I say, "ho hum, business as usual for Clemson".

Perception partly.
Partly, they look at the fact that 4 teams from the Big 10 are ranked in the top 10.
But they don't talk about the other half of that equation, which includes Rutgers (2-10), Michigan State (3-9), Illinois (3-9) and Purdue (3-9).

or as Hitler's Propaganda Minister said "Tell a lie often enough and people will believe it." The SEC is so bad this year they had to come up with a new great conference. Eventually someone will say "The king has no clothes on."

Yep, it became too apparent to continue the SEC crap, so they went back to the conference preSEC pimp, the B1G. You know, the two conferences that have their own ESPiN powered Network/channels.
The B1G has 4 Top 25 OOC wins this year, since Temple just got in at #24.
The ACC has 3.

I like the fact that you have to go all the way down to Auburn at #14 to find the second SEC team in the rankings, with 3 ACC teams in between.

I live in B1G country and I don't get all of the hype. Don't think they are all that great.

The narrative pivoted when the golden boy Lamar faded out ... also it's starting to set in that the Sec is trash.

The ACC is on the rise no doubt. Move over S#C and Big.

1. Ohio State thumping Oklahoma 2. Wisconsin beating LSU 3. Michigan beating Colorado
That's the first part. The next part is something that I've never understood, but apparently the media prefers to have three or four teams with GREAT conference records as opposed to a bunch of teams that are more equally matched.
In conference play, you end up with a .500 record after all conference games are played. The media prefers to have a few 8-1 teams, but that leaves you with a few Rutgers, Marylands, Purdues. If we all went 5-4 or 4-5, would that diminish those previously mentioned OOC wins? To the media, it would.
I do think if you had to rank them this season, the B1G would be #1. But I don't think the gap is far at all, even if there is one.

What irritates me is that the committee decided early on to give Ohio State a pass to the playoffs. If the situation were reversed, and OSU were 9-2 and had just beat PSU and Wisconsin in the conference playoff, there would be no question that they would go to the playoff. But when the committee ranked OSU in 2nd place, it was obvious that they were insulating them against whatever happened in the B1G championship.
As was said on Mike & Mike this morning, Washington should have been in on the basis of their record and winning the Pac. The decision for the 4th seed should have been between OSU and PSU, where the head to head and conference standings fall for PSU. Instead, the committee shifts the conversation to whether Washington or PSU should get the 4th seed. So for 2 out of the first 3 years of the college football playoff, OSU weasels its way in to the playoff over better, more deserving teams.

darlings of the media. That is the obvious tie breaker, that is unspoken by the committee, but certainly exists. If we were down in 6th or 7th place, like OhSt was two years ago, do you think we would have vaulted to 4th, even if we had blown out VaTech. I doubt it!
That said, I do think OhSt is one of the best four teams this year, and until the playoff is expanded and conference winners are guaranteed spots, the best four teams should get in.

wagon. They think because a conference is competitive with their own teams that they are world beaters. That was the same old story when the press appointed the SEC champion (usually Bama) to play a team that matched up perfectly for them.
