How Great Is Our Punter!

No this is not some tongue and cheek swipe at the kid. He did something wrong. He knows that. We know that. What I think is ridiculous is Herbie's comment that somebody needs to put an arm around that kid. Now THAT is ridiculous. When you do something in the business world that is harmful to the company, nobody puts an arm around you and coddles you. The only thing you get is escorted to your vehicle with your belongings in your hand.
However, I have to commend that young man on how he handled it. Dabo gave the kid a good tongue lashing as he should have (some coaches would have dismissed him from the team). The kid didn't get pissed off, didn't throw his helmet, or mouth off back at Dabo. He took his tongue lashing like a man then went out there and did his job the way he is suppose to. Of course nobody is going to talk about this.
Let's face it, we all have been chewed out in our life. I have many times. My favorite quote is from Inglorious ########: "Nah, I won't be shot. I'll be chewed out. I've been chewed out before." But the mark of a man isn't when you get chewed out. It's what you do after you've been chewed out.
Just a testament to the type of men Dabo is developing at Clemson.

There is nothing wrong with Dabo's reaction I agree. More butt chewings would make tis country stronger. I was concerned about the next time he had to punt and he handled like a pro!! Strong kid!!

So, break the kid down and leave him broken down?

Everywhere in life, when you make a critical mistake and are rightfully taken to task, an effective manager (or parent) will then attempt to build you back up after the moment has passed. Herbie's comment was right. He needs an arm around him after he was broken down to reestablish confidence and his standing with the team.

I bet you after the game they talked.. at that time you need to have a cool off period. say your piece and let it be done. that was in a championship game. no way in hell do you freelance. SORRY. He even asked him what was that? he had no answer. so it wasnt a wrong sign. If it was the wrong sign he would have pointed to someone that so called gave him a sign.

You and I are saying the same thing. He deserved every bit of the venom spewed at him during the game. Then, when the moment has passed, put your arm around him him and begin to build him up again.

they love each other and all is good on that front. So it sounds like he did exactly what you are saying.

Yep. I'm completely cool with how Dabo handled it. I was just making a counter point to the original poster.

Dabo put him in to punt the next time instead of pulling him. Thats how you reestablish confidence. Dabo effectively said, "you screwed up, but you are still my punter."

I can finally lay to rest Wynn Kopp memories in Athens. Someone earlier simply said he read a signal wrong. He's been a work horse. Move on
