What was your fav underrated Clemson Football game/games

that was exciting to watch not just as a Clemson fan but as a CFB fan as well? 2 games come to mind for me and they are from recent seasons. (Prob because of recently bias)

The first game is from 2022 when Clemson won in a back and forth thriller at WF in double OT. Man was that a good game to watch and rewatch. If you love watching offense then this game was for you. What’s funny is this game was the best game DJ Uiagalelei had in his Clemson career (maybe even college career as well), with him throwing for 371 yards and 5 touchdowns, while also rushing for 52 yards in that game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhY6Op1tpZM

The second game is our most recent bowl victory when we beat Kentucky in another back and forth thriller. It was one of the best bowl games of the 2023 season. Phil Mafah was a workhorse for us in that game with him scoring 4 touchdowns plus his last one being the game winning score for us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7tXk6Us-X4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C0kfJyW1_s

I’m interested to hear from the oldies on here about what older underrated Clemson FB game/games they think deserve some love. I’m sure there were some great games in the 80s or 90s or even 00s that I missed out on because I wasn’t born yet or was too young to watch.

One other underrated game I would like to point out is our game vs texas a&m in 2018. It was a close game with a controversial touchback call. (Which was called correctly). This game was 1 of only 2 close games we had in our 2018 season. Funnily enough both close games were when Trever didn’t play a full game in those games.

Miami game in the 2000s. Tennessee in early 2000s. BC game we lost to get into the ACC championship game. Wake Forest with Gaines Adam's return. DW beating the chickens.

Recent - 2014 Louisville first time in Death Valley. We were loud when the game started because the Louisville coach had said he didn’t think the environment would be any tougher than playing in the dome at Syracuse. We were loud all the way through the game because it came right down to the very last play.

Historical - 1981 Wake Forest. 82-24. Not much of a game but I had a lot of fun that day as a sophomore in the student section. Has always been one of my favorite games.

Honestly the 1981 game sounds like a very fun game to experience in person. You love to see a blowout win especially one with that many points and records set. They “set the school’s high-water mark for points in an ACC game (82) and conference marks in total yards (756) and rushing yards (536). The Halloween beatdown featured 21 records in all set at the time, with the Tigers going 12-of-12 on third down and scoring 12 touchdowns.”. The tiger mascot must have been exhausted doing all those push ups.

I love going back and watching Clemson demolish FSU in 2018 at Doak-Campbell. I think it ended 59-10, FSU's worst home loss ever. It was 0-0 at the end of the first and then the wheels came off for Willie Taggart's team. Seems like everybody got in on the act that day. Nice revenge game for 2013. Also comical seeing that guy reading his paperback while catching some rays.

Yea I remember watching the game on tv and seeing the moment the camera panned to the fan reading his book. It became an instant meme.

Maryland 2011

It was a game we typically lose and remember thinking we were turning a corner.

I think this game was as important as the LSU win, this was sort of a next step in the process of building our program.

I vaguely remember watching this game live, (I was 11 at the time) but it was definitely an exciting game to watch. I definitely remember our LSU game in the Chick-fil-A Bowl back in 2012 tho. I remember my 12 year old self being really nervous about the final kick of the game but Chandler Catanzaro was able to knock it in for an epic finish. The 4th and 16 conversion to continue the final drive was another nerve racking play but we were able to pull through.

I suppose since it’s a tombstone game maybe doesn’t fit the criteria of an underrated game.

I would classify it as an underrated game. Since we have had many bigger games since 2009 that kinda over shadow this specific game.
I think this game might be one of my earliest memories of watching a Clemson football game. I was 9 at the time so my memory is a little fuzzy so I prob did watch the whole game but I don’t have many memories of it. Tho I do definitely remember watching the ending of that game pretty well. It was an exciting ending.

Another game that was a really good game but was a loss for us was our lone loss of the 2016 season. Luckily we kinda made up for it by going on to win the national championship that year but it does suck that we fell short that game.

That 2005 Texas A&M. Jad Dean with like 6 field goals and Stuckey with a punt return TD I believe.

Also, maybe 2001 or 2002, at Georgia Tech. 4th and like 13 and Dantzler completes it McKelvey. Then goes on to win it in overtime.

This is the game that finally got the media's attention that Clemson was a legit contender. Defense played physical and made the Baker Mayfield-led Sooners look bad.

Kinda wild to say this but 2007 Bucholz walk off FG in Columbia never hardly gets mentioned. Never see it any highlight videos or anything. Pretty weird if being honest.

I found the game on YouTube and watched the final drive. Man was that a fun ending. It didn’t look good at one point in the drive when Harper was sacked and then we had a 4th down to convert but we were able to get a 1st down. Then we were able to march down the field to put us in good field position for a game winning kick. I watched that broadcast and it seems like our kicker in 2007 had some kicking troubles with him missing fgs in that game and the game before. (He missed a game tying fg the week before.)

2007 was before my time as a Clemson fan (I became a casual fan when I was 8 in 2008 and became a diehard fan in 2011) so I obviously didn’t watch this game live and I don’t remember ever hearing about this game. This is definitely an underrated game for sure. Thanks tygerfan28 sharing.

Here’s the game if you or anyone want to watch it. If you just want to watch the final drive then it starts around the 2:08 mark.

at Pitt last year was a fun game, played like crap all 2nd hand and found a way to win
UVA in like '96 - Freezing cold and we were big underdogs but crushed them with a running attack and turnover margin
UNC in maybe '94 - we were terrible and they were decent. we had no business winning that game
FSU in '07 was wild, weird but fun game
Dabo's first win at BC was fun as well
and I'll add a couple of the Syracuse games at home that we really had to rally late.
