I was 9 years old. 1961 World Series. That game was at Crosley field. It had a slope in left field. More gradual than Clemson's, but definitely noticable. The Pinson they mentioned was Vada Pinson, the lesser known outfielder when compared to Frank Robinson.

I grew up hating the Yankees. My daddy taught me well. One of the happiest days of my childhood was just a year before this video when Bill Mazeroski hit the walk off homer in game 7.

Remember Maz’s HR well. I was on the school bus headed home listening on a transistor radio. Sure did love baseball back then. I haven’t watched MLB in years now, can’t name a player from any team. NFL the same just not quite as long. Thanks for the video.

Yankee fans. Had to outrun them to keep from getting mauled because I was celebrating that homer so much. Always listened to the Pirates night games on KDKA radio.

I think I was probably in the third grade?? Born in April of 51. Was just leaving the school house when he hit the HR. Like you, I would listen and keep score of games that I could pick up on the radio. Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and if weather conditions aligned maybe Boston. As a Giants fan, I just couldn’t understand why The State paper had the Giants box score a day later? At 9-10 years old just didn’t think about the three hour difference.

Hey Spud! Do you have any pictures of you and young Abe Lincoln fishing the rivers of Kentucky?

I’m an old school baseball nut. I met Bobby Thompson about ten years before he died (2000) and got him to autograph a picture of his Shot Heard around the World. It still hangs in my office and usually gets a question and opens the door for me to regale the youngsters with a history lesson.
