What makes Cade an elite P5 QB- I'm not convinced of the hype

1. Does not have elite arm strength- sideline throws are dangerously interceptable 2. Doesn't see the field that well- misses open options a lot 3. Does not throw receivers open 4. Cannot run the zone read super well- fumbles and poor decisions 5. Ok- he might have above-average straight speed, but not elite elusiveness 6. He does not have above-average size
He just starts for what has been an elite P5 team in our Clemson Tigers and was a 5* in college. Coach Dabo did a great hype job. I hope this post does NOT age well, and I eat crow. I am not convinced Cade is championship-level... yet- he may just be a slow develop. Is Vizzina just young, but the better option?
I expect COOT references, 1.5% crap, and cynical, demeaning responses- please ease my expectations.

Crazy people!
Sophmore with 7 starts, 2 OCs in 2yrs, and not the greatest WR talent. What's he supposed to do, throw and catch? How many QBs would excel with same scenario, not many!

He was a 5* according to the recruiting services.
You may not like him, but he's a 5*.
You opinion is your opinion, but just "cause you say it don't make it so".
I think he's only going improve. Even D4W wouldn't look like himself in this offense. Cade can run Riley's offense. WR play has been terrible since Jeff Scott left, that's another fact that people like to forget. Or, they misdiagnose the WR issue as a lack of "talent" when its actually a combination of recruiting misses, lack of player development, and not having the right combination of on-field talent available (i.e. all boils down to coaching).
You can't have deficiencies in your coaching staff and fire on all cylinders. Cade needs to improve, but so does his supporting cast.

I think in time he’s going to be pretty elite. He will get better with each game. Experience will be the key for him. He is very accurate and throws a catchable ball. He just needs some time and maturity. Trevor was definitely elite but people forget the mistakes he made early in his career at CU.

You’re 100% correct. Look at Stetson Bennett. Kid looked so small compared to the giants around him. Fortunately for him, he ad an arsenal of weapons and a dominating offensive line. Our issues isn’t Cade as much as it is our line and WR coaching.

We have had a few 4 * guys, even 5 * QB that have moved onto other schools. That being said, Cade is a very very good young QB. He has to eliminate that one bonehead throw per game - which is often not intercepted, but should be intercepted. Otherwise, good QB, who is not surrounded by elite 5 star WR or 5 star O linemen.

The plan was for him to get a lot of playing time in as a freshman but that didn't happen, while he still could become a top QB at Clemson in time, one question i have is that he won't be an early round draft after next season meaning he will come back for a senior season, does CV17 transfer out?

If CV transfers, we probably hit the portal for a QB.
That said, we have Hebert coming in from the 2025 class that's got some awesome potential.

at any time AND leave the PORTAL OPEN ALL YEAR long.
Teams could then “call up” QBs from the portal as needed.
I’s joking around a bit here. However we’re not too far off of this.
Teams are going to lose QBs like CV who are redshirting because they want to play immediately instead of waiting.

He's only a sophomore with less than 10 starts under his belt. Not many other quarterbacks possess those qualities at such a young age. Give the young man time to grow and mature.

Couple things HB. DW4 was ready-made cause he ran our offense. Trevor is a rare cat. He could have skipped college. Very Very few like him. I can't think of a single one. Burrow didn't flourish until senior season and had NFL support cast.
Hopefully cade can put on a little more muscle and get that arm speed up. We'll see if he ever grows into NFL level qb, but he doesn't have too as others pointed out. He can certainly become a Tim teebow.

I too am not impressed with Klubnik. I had the opportunity to see Bryce Young and Caleb Williams play in high school and it was evident at that time they were legit 5 star prospects. After watching Klubnik on film and in his short time at Clemson, there is nothing that puts him even close to Young, Williams and TL16 as 5 star prospects at the same point in their careers. If Vizzina is unable to beat out Klubnik I don't think Clemson fans should expect much improved QB play in the years to come. Maybe Klubnik will get surprisingly better in the next year but I wouldn't bet on it. I am still trying to figure out who rated him as a 5 star prospect.

Shedeur Sanders - 3rd year Michael Penix- 6th year Jayden Daniels - 5th year JT Daniels- 6th year Nicholas Vattiato (MTSU)- 3rd year Carson Beck- 3rd year Brayden Schager- 3rd year Brady Cook (Miz)- 4th year Caleb Williams- 3rd year Brayden Nicolosi (CSU)- 2nd year (14 tds-11INTs) TJ Finely (Texas State) 4th year Tulia Tagoviloa- 5th year Austin Reed (WKU) - 4th year Jacob Zeno (UAB) - 5th year Drake Maye- 3rd year Jack Plummer- 5th year Graham Mertz- 5th year Davis Brin (Georgia State)- 5th year Dillon Gabriel- 5th year Sam Hartman- 6th year Diego Pavia(New Mexico State)- 3rd year Bo Nix- 5th year Cameron Ward- 4th year Carter Bradley(South Alabama)- 6th year Spenner Rattler- 5th year
Thats the top 25 in passing yards in order and you'll notice they are all old and the 1 who isnt has thrown 11 picks. Also other than Caleb Williams the rest were not great by their 8th start. Give him time. He might not be an NFL all-star, like Deshuan or Trevor, but he can still be great.

People forget that DW4 had 8 games as a fresh, plus didn't come with risks as he threw 13 Ints his soph yr and 17 Ints his Jr yr. Both DW4 and TL had better WRs with an elite NFL RB. Not sure what NFL talent we have on offense right now? Remember its not just the player but the talent around him as well.

Who are the elite sophomore QBs in the country?
2

QB is the hardest position in sports to play. Hitting a curve ball is tough, but you only have to be successful around 20% of the time. The trend is towards older QBs who have gained size and strength and gained enough experience with the many decision making situations they face in modern offenses.
I disagree on #3 and #5. Cade is developing rapidly with experience will render all of your points null and void except for #6. I would expect Cade to be around 6'2.5" 215 pounds next year. Not elite, but plenty big enough for college and the NFL.

Bookmark this for next year when Wesco and Moore are on Campus.
Agree on his arm not being a rocket but its plenty good enough and leaves his hand quick when he pulls the trigger. The other issues you note arent entirely on him or indicative of his skill set.

What many don't think about is how good of a runner CK is. He has become a valuable option to keep the ball and run around the end, make a first and step out of bounds. Plays that would end up losses become safety valve gains. We will go far with him.

yes, the most explosive thing about him is his feet. And once he becomes more aware of how and when to use his escapability he will be even more dangerous.

He has only had 7 starts and is still learning how to excel at this level in a new offense. He will get an upgrade at WR next year and with another 6-7 starts under his belt and another offseason to prepare, I expect to see some elite things come out of him next year.

CK2 was mismanaged last year which led to a stunted growth start for him in college.
We see the flashes. His ceiling is elite and potential 1st RD pick if he puts it all together. Dude just needs some seasoning and he's getting plenty this year. Idk if he blooms this season but I can definitely see him blowing up next year and running the offense at the level we'd prefer to see.
However, that's next season's potential. As of right now...he's a good QB that is prone to boneheaded young QB mistakes. Anyone calling him a bust though would be premature at best.
Current comp is Kelly Bryant with a quicker release but not as talented of a runner/executor of the RPO.

because he's just pretty good for a Sophomore with Freshman experience, we're 4-2.

these are generally on the QB. The one in the Duke game was key.
He's also missed a fair amount of progressions and open receivers.
As is being noted by others, he is not yet Elite, but will continue to get better. Don't be so defensive....
