I still use my collapsible laundry hamper from freshman year of college (‘02). It’s been through a lot, and it’s still perfectly functional. Got my mom’s money’s worth for sure.

Adjustable Wrench 10" and set of plyers that was my Fathers. They were kept in the toolbox on our JD tractor until he passed away in 1974. I put the tools in my truck and still have both in my tool box in the garage today. WD-40 and a rag keeps them in fine shape.

It was with him through the island hopping campaign as an LCVP (Higgins Boat Operator). Fired a few times in frustration and futility against Kamikaze attacks but lovingly preserved with holster and accoutrements. I typically only fire it once or twice a year just for an excuse to strip and clean it. Interestingly it was manufactured by Singer.

I was just telling my son about the S & ze 1911 I bought my Dad before he passed away. It was a .22 caliber because he wanted to shoot it a lot. This was back 2020 when ammo cost two arms and two legs.

Wow! That's the Holy Grail of M1911s. Only 500 were made and they bring astronomical prices at auctions, with one in perfect condition bringing $414,000.
My father brought back a Colt and a Remington (1911s) from the Pacific Campaign and I also had an original issue green parkerized M1911 that had never been to an arsenal for rework - all original.
Sadly, my age told me that I didn't need the 20 or so rifles, shotguns and pistols I owned and sold the arsenal a couple of years ago, getting a pretty good price for the 1911. It was a wonderful pistol.
I did keep one pistol for self defense - a 5-shot S&W J-frame snub-nose .38 Chief Special revolver. It has enough stopping power for close-up needs, is easy to carry and there's no fear of forgetting to release the safety if needed in an emergency.

I still use an engraved Sterling hair brush that I got in 1970 when I graduated High School and since I now only use it on the back of my head where I have hair, the brush is as good as ever.

My wife and I have been married for 41 years next week and together for 45. So she has owned me longer than most. And y’all thought I was going in a different direction there…
I have quite a few tools that were my Dad’s so I started using them as a kid in the 1960’s.
I have a Marlin 10.22 rifle that I bought in 1982.
I still have my high school football jersey and basketball practice jersey. So 1977-1980 for those. But I don’t use them regularly any more.
Our kitchen table was built by my great grandfather somewhere around 1900. It has been our kitchen table since 2005. I also have his Remington model 1900 double barrel 12 gauge shotgun. I looked up the serial numbers and they indicate it was made in 1910. My Dad had it when I was a kid and now it is mounted above my fireplace mantle. Also not used regularly.

I had a Winchester.22 pump my Dad got when he was 16. He gave it to me when I was 7. Last week I gave to my son who is 33. I had it taken apart and deep cleaned. My son has had his eye on the gun for many years. He loves to shoot that firearm more than any we have.
I had a High Standard 9 shot .22 Western Style Pistol until this kid I was trying to help paid me back by walking into my condo in September of 2020. He and 2 of his gang members put a gun to my forehead and demanded money and guns. I guess I was slightly dizzy when they said it because I replied Shoot You will be in Hell while I watch from Heaven. Obviously they did not fire because I am still hear. Unfortunately they did get several pistols, ammo, my $500 camera along with my fishing backpack. They caught the kid I had been helping but he would not give up the other 2. He got the maximum of 20 years. To me threatening to kill me and robbing me at gun point was worth at minimum of 30 years.
I would put the 1911 45 Caliber in a heavy or mounted safe. And those who own the Shotgun and rifle the same thing.
I also recommend you get the values on the older firearms and have listed separately on your HO’s policy. As an adjuster I have handled many claims where guns we stolen but the value of the guns were much higher than your standard coverage.
Thanks for sharing. It brought back many great times I spent with my Dad.

He bought it secondhand before I was born. So Lord knows how old it is.
But it's still the smoothest action, most reliable gun I've got in the safe. Dad went on to his reward almost a decade ago, but that Winchester's still going strong.

Can you read the serial numbers on it? If you can, you can go online and find how to determine what it was manufactured from the serial number. I did that with my great grandfather’s shotgun and found out it was made in 1910. I would start by googling Winchester serial numbers and see where it takes you. I’d love to know how old it is.

Correct, I have my grandfather's which was a special order that was made with Tiger-eye Maple. Its the only one I have ever seen and I have asked a couple gun dealers and they know little to nothing about it.

I’ve got a fabric covered stool I use in my closet that my mother bought with Top Value stamps in about 1968. I also have a wooden bowl I made in 8th grade shop class in 1969 that I keep on my dresser for car keys, change, wallet, etc. both are still going strong!

From ‘87. It had gone through so much with us that I recently fiberglassed the cracked plastic base (not recommended for entertainment value), and gave it new hinges.
No idea why they’d make a steel cooler with a plastic base.
Hopefully good for another 40 years, though it is unlikely that I am.

Great Grandfather's chair, circa 1880 with original hickory bark seat. Of course it's only sat in when company comes over and we sit in the living room.
I have my Grandfather's shotgun. He bought it when he was 16 yrs old, in 1903. But it doesn't count. With it's Damascus barrels , I'm afraid to use it.

Westinghouse hassock fan that was a wedding gift to my parents in June, 1953. It has a Bakelite blade. My brother and I starting using it in the mid 70s. Other than some oil and replacement of the electrical cord, it has needed nothing and makes the best white noise ever.

When I was eight I asked my old man for a pocket knife for my birthday, what he gave me was a Ka-Bar. My mom was less than thrilled. It’s my hunting, fishing, camping, and woodscraft tool of choice. I still take it to the woods with me every day, and it will be my son’s one day.

Remington Model 870 Wingmaster 20 gauge that I got for Christmas when I was 14 and still use it often for rabbit and dove hunting. Also have a 1911 Colt Gold Cup MKIV National Match .45 that my Dad used for competition. I learned to shoot with that pistol and still use it often, it’s still in excellent condition.

sewing kit with the admonition: "Don't bring home your dirty laundry nor things that need to be sewn!"
That kit lasted four years at CU, throughout my assignments in the Army, and since 1972 to now, after I returned from three years overseas duty. I still use it now for minor fixes, plus no doubt, a few of the thread spools are originals. I have had to tape it several times and added more needles, but I can sew up socks and replace buttons like a chump...I mean, champ, in a skinny minute.
One other item I've had for over 50 years and still use is a boot jack, given to me by an Uncle, who was a Texas rancher. On a visit he heard me complaining about removing riding boots and pulled that item out of a closet. Best thing ever for taking off cowboy boots after a long day driving steers up that old Chisholm Trail! lol

Aside from my .410, I still have a bowl that I made in shop class my freshman year (spring 1972) at Lexington High School. It’s made from cherry and walnut slats glued together, cut into a wheel shape, then turned on the lathe. Wife and I still put fruit or fresh veggies in it.

I have my childhood nightstand in office right now as well as my toy box i got in 1971. Those and my teddy bear is still around somewhere on display on the bedroom. Now that I think of it I'm not sure where I got it but I have a white mug with revolutionary war soldiers on it including the south carolina regimental uniform in my office as well. I believe those are the things I have had the longest and still in use

Outside of tools my Dad gave me and a .357 magnum I inherited from my grandfather (not used regularly), the items I use regularly are a cast iron skillet, one of which was inherited from my grandmother; a cast iron flat grill pan from a friend's mother; and, an HP42S RPN Scientific calculator I purchased while at Clemson.

For my high school graduation in 1964, my mother bought me a genuine alligator belt with a gold buckle with my initials engraved on it. I still have it, it fits, and I wear it on occasions. At the time the belt was $25 and the buckle was $25 ...... a lot of money for a belt in 1964.

I have a fluorescent lamp I used at Clemson 76-80. Had it on my desk at work until I retired January 1 of this year. Still works!
Also, a hot pad made with small tiles I made at Royal Ambassador (RA) camp in the mid 60s. Still in kitchen being used. Anyone else visit RAcamp? Fun times!!
