What is everyone’s thoughts on coordinator changes

Nov 27, 2022, 11:48 PM

I want to believe that Dabo will do what is necessary on the offensive side of the ball but I’m not convinced. I am worried if we somehow win the next two games that Dabo will consider this season a success and be even more stubborn to change. Hate to say it but I don’t think there’s a coach on that side of that should be here next year. Offense has needed new blood for years.

They are not going to happen. Hubris is apparently now the culture. Dabo has no reason to change what he is doing.

It's necessary, but won't happen.

I'm convinced that Dabo would rather lose than be proved wrong. I expect Streeter will be calling plays again.

Wes Goodwin needs another year. He may not be a Brent Venables but he got the job done with mostly his players. Need to see what he can do with his own.
Brandon Streeter needs to remain solely as quarterback coach as he needs to improve that position more than worrying about play calling.
Get back Jeff Scott ASAP and get a new Strength and conditioning coach.

The offense has needed new blood since ……..

Nov 28, 2022, 6:47 AM

2019 LSU but coming off a NC appearance he wasn’t doing that.
2020 was more of a slide offensively that was exposed in the OOC (yet again our issues were masked by a pathetic conference)
2021 Dabo had a GOLDEN opportunity to go out and get a proven OC after our worst offensive performance in yeeeeeears and he botched that decision to keep it “in the family”
2022 is self explanatory. If it takes losing our last two to force him to make a change (like 2010 & 2011) then so be it.

I’m like you. I’m not convinced Dabo will make the NECESSARY changes to his program (and there are MANY) to get us elite again. Hopefully he surprises me.
Just happy not to be wasting any more money on this hot garbage of a team this year.

Geez, change Coordinators - I doubt it. He won’t even put the QB in (for a quarter) that gives us the best chance to win.

He has to be smart enough to see the malaise that our offense is in. It’s been a couple years and we plod on. Gotta make a change there. Defense will get another year.

Honestly I think it is too soon for him to make a full change. Swapping up responsibilities, adding a CO-OC on the field with street in the box, maybe.

But this is Streeter's first full year and our offense was not better last year under Tony Elliot. I think some grace should be extended to Streeter but he does need help. Jeff Scott (or someone outside the program) as an offensive analyst could go a long way.

I am not disappointed with Goodwin but not sure we`ve had a great offensive mind since Chad Morris...he left behind a legacy at SMU that remains to this day! I think Morris hated any offense to get `stale` so he routinely introduced new wrinkles...last two OC`s ironed out the wrinkles!

Offensive overhaul. New running back coach, new wr coach and a new offensive coordinator. Defensive coordinator I am fine with. Defense has had injuries and learning pains. The offense keeps our defense on the field too much and back after way too many turnovers. Hard to see your efforts rewarded with a three and out or a turnover.

Just curious, has anyone been on a Bama site? Wonder how they are reacting to their horrendous 10-2 record?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At best I think we would be 8-4 in the $EC, maybe 6-6

Nov 28, 2022, 7:48 AM

with our current offense. Probably same record as the coots at best.

Bama isn't nearly as bad off as we are,
They still have the same identity, they just was in the national title last year and haven't lost a step in recruiting and just blew out their rivals

Bama and Clemson are not the same right now

While I am not sure Streeter is the answer at OC...

Nov 28, 2022, 7:27 AM

in fairness, I do think the play calling is dictated, at least to a certain degree, due to the limitations of the QB.

The only one that I would fire would be Grisham. I might put some feelers out to see if there might be someone available to replace Richardson.

Just because I don't think that personnel changes are necessary does not mean that I don't think that major changes are necessary, especially, on offense. Streeter needs to develop a new offensive philosophy and put a plan in for implementing it.

I have less faith in Goodwin. He was poor at making adjustments and we had an average defense with exceptional talent. He needs to watch tape for 16 hours a day in the off season and figure out what he missed during the games. He has to develop the ability to make the changes needed to stop offenses on a game by game basis.

I don't have any faith in Dabo doing what he should. My thoughts are that the AD should step in and clean house on offense and remove some hires on defense. He should then hire the next set from outside the program. I would also tell Dabo to do his job as head coach and stop play calling.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't foresee any changes

Nov 28, 2022, 7:53 AM

I am for an autopsy on our offensive scheme and a revamping. If you look at Streeter's offenses he called in the FCS they were pretty wide open

We need an offense period! Defense will be fine, if the offense didn't constantly put then on a short field. Tackling has got to get better, but as our DB's get experience we have seen that the defense is top flight.
Offense has not had an Identity since Trevors first year, we won the next 2 years basically because Trevor and Travis were just that #### good!~

Re: What is everyone’s thoughts on coordinator changes

Unfortunately Dabo’s desire to prove he’s “right” has surpassed his desire to win. If he won’t change a QB that clearly has struggled for 2 years he’s not gonna change coordinators after just 1 year.

We need position coaching changes also. Our special teams has been an Achilles heel for a long time. We need a true coach there not give it as a side job to one of the other coaches. Combine the defensive ends and tackles coach. Move Conn to an analyst position or something or combine tight ends and receivers coach. And yes OC needs changed also. Anyone that calls a run up the middle on first down 99 % of the time has no business being a D1 coordinator

Re: What is everyone’s thoughts on coordinator changes

I always look at personnel as who would others want for their team. We knew for years that BV, TE and Scott were people that others would want, and they were. What assistants do we have now that other Power 5 schools would want for the same position or a promotion? I think Eason for sure and maybe Spiller and our OL coach for their potential. We can be sitting here 10 years from now complaining about losing to the Coots and Wes and Streeter and Conn and Richardson and WR coach will still be here. No other school is going to come try to grab any of that bunch up. So, there's the problem.
