What if ND has it correct?

Let’s face it football is moving towards being it’s on entity in College. ND is setup perfectly. Their football already is it’s on entity and they house non-revenue sports in a conference.
Many believe that’s the path we are on now. Football will be it’s on thing and the rest of sports will play regionally. Will happen sooner rather than later.
ND will not join a FB conference ever at the rate the football is changing in college sports. There will end being 2 “conferences” of football and the rest of the sports will maintain some sort of tradition.

They def were the front runners in the brand mentality and NBC put all eggs in that basket, thus facilitating the ‘we don’t need no stinking conference’ approach that really has only worked for them. You can be smart, yet narcissistic simultaneously. But NBC funded the whole shabang.

I wish we could be a stand alone brand but that isn't possible. On the other hand our partnership with the ACC has become a drain rather than a benefit. We need a more lucrative partnership.

Having ND as a partial member brings additional revenue to every school so how exactly are they a drain?

Dying brand though. I am close to fifty and could care less about ND. The fans will fade with time and force the hand.

Many people love to hate ND.
In the last 10 years ND ranks among the top ten in total games won. Only 5 teams have appeared in the CFP more often than ND. ND has the 2nd best conference record of teams in the ACC since the Irish started playing 5 ACC games a year. It has been mentioned quite a few times than ACC teams have made money off the deal that allows ND to be a partial conference member in the ACC.
If the Irish called the Big 10 or the SEC tomorrow and said "We want to join your league" they would be accepted as the newest member of the league by the end of the week.
Most college programs would kill to be a "dying program" in the manner of Notre Dame and that included Clemson.
I am Clemson fan, not an ACC fan and not a ND fan. Still, I would rather the Irish win in match ups with the all the best teams in the country not named Clemson. Hating on ND is a bit akin to all the MLB hate of the Yankees for so many years. People resent the success of the Irish.
I love it that Clemson is 4-3 vs ND all time. I hope we can go up another game on the Irish this season.

100% dying brand. I agree. When people talk brands you have two factors: fanbase/traditional success and recent success in the modern era on the field. For example, under Chip Kelly Oregon became a big brand nationally. They won games and had an explosive offense and flashy uniforms. No National Championships! That -O- their players was for how many championships they posted. But, still they have a brand.
Penn State has a massive alumni base but hasn't been relevant since the late 80's. But, the talking heads are all old enough to remember when. Same goes for ND.
Harley - I wouldn't call it ND hate or envy. It's more about them not beating the bama's or Georgia's or LSU's. Losing a coach to LSU never would have happened under the "Notre Dame is the best college coaching job in the country era"! I think people are saying: "what have you done for me lately because what you did in leather helmets and voted on championships does not impress me"!
OP - did you know Pittsburgh has 9 claimed National Championships in football? None since 1976. Probably a product of when the National media basically meant the mid-west and north-east "ONLY". They aren't a National brand - because: what have you done for me lately.

We are not in a similar situation with a fan base like them. Apples and Oranges.
