What are people's thoughts on ESPNs interests in Clemson/SEC

I could see the value of getting Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, since FOX had a sizable chunk of the Big 12 media deal. Bringing them over to the SEC not only enhances the SEC's value, but it kills the Big 12, which makes ESPN even stronger.
If Clemson and/or FSU would leave the ACC it would definitely be a crushing blow to the ACC, a conference that ESPN is fully invested in. The question is, would it be more beneficial for ESPN to have Clemson and/or FSU to grow the SEC even stronger while hurting their investment in the ACC and its stand alone network or would ESPN rather have a super SEC and a pretty good ACC both under their belts?
With the assumption that Clemson will do what's best for them, what does everyone else feel about how it plays out?

I can't ever tell what the truth is regarding Clemson to the sec or anywhere else. I can't imagine Clemson leaving sometimes.
However some sort of mega conference or at least an ELITE league for college football will become apparent. Vandy, Duke, Wake - they will NEVER get there.
Clemson can, FSU can Miami can .... anyone else from eh ACC ? VT ? UNC maybe or maybe not - they are clearly a basketball school which is what I hate about the ACC. Basketball is first basically I feel a lot

It really depends on how much ESPN is involved in realignment. If they are I think you are correct since they hold rights to both conferences, however it seems to me the ACC needs to make some expansion just to have the ability to renegotiate their tv deal. With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, the revenue received by each SEC team will approach doubling that of teams in the ACC. In a perfect world Norte Dame would join the ACC. It would be great to add Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan as well. That would definitely balance the ACC with the SEC. I’m sure that would be a scenario that ESPN would love. However I don’t see that happening in the near future.

I read an article saying that just with Texass and Okla in the SEC, each member school will be getting around 71 mil a year!!! Clemson sports could feed a lot of pretty good athletes with that kind of cash!!!
That would pay Dabo, and his staffs salary with more money left afterwards than they are getting from the ACC right now!!!

Imagine how South Carolina will squander that much money on mediocrity.

Yeah, that $71 million sticks in my mind too. The outgoing FSU president said they were willing to talk to the SEC or anyone else. Making the ACC stronger is an option, but there is ONLY one way. That's by bringing in ND and we know how hard that is. No school is going to leave another major conference. So that goes back to ND. WVU can join too, but they don't help the conference. They are simply the only other big program we could pick off. Maybe not this year, but the future seems to be join the SEC, with all their super conference, leaving the NCAA talk, or have ND join the ACC. ESPN probably prefers the latter.

I would like Clemson to go to the SEC, but would prefer an SEC-ACC merger (I heard this idea from Jay Bilas). Also add WV and ND to make 32 teams, then you have 4 divisions of 8 teams. Play a 10 game conference sked as most rivalries now within the conference and then, depending on the playoff format, up to 2 non conference games.
That said, I wouldn’t be crazy about Clemson and the brand Dabo has built here, cherishing character and graduation, joining a conference that would strangle the sport to establish dominance. There needs to be balance in anything for it to work, something greedy and selfish people do not understand.

Please Jay Bilas is a buffoon. Clemson will be fine whatever Dabo thinks is best for the program
I trust his opinion he will make the correct decision moving forward.

I agree mostly but what Dabo thinks may be good now could not be good 5-10 down the road. Not complaining about him but the way this landscape changes who knows. No one saw this latest flurry till it hit.

Hate to see what's coming for college football.

Watching the '87 UGA game that was posted last week and seeing the scores from other games around the country, I was reminded how much it already has changed. I remember when you could see good football in the old WAC and the Pac-10 and there were a lot more "intersectional" rivalries and games.
Today the West Coast teams hardly matter at all and most of the Big 12 is irrelevant as well. I am a traditionalist and while I know we are not going back, I agree with what Herbstreit said about the effects of all of this on college football.
Money is NOT everything. But try telling the universities that.

ESPN is completely content getting Clemson and FSU on the cheap with the ACC contract.

I agree with this, they already have the rights there is no need to force a move to the SEC if that is what is happening. I could see them relegating the ACC to the Tuesday/Wed. games like the MAC or something though.

I hate to agree with Finebaum but Clemson or Florida State as far as TV markets go aren't going to bring that many more viewers/ TV money.
And why the he111 would Clemson or Florida State want to leave the ACC when you are a automatic for the playoffs? Go get Oklahoma State and Baylor and call it a day.
