A lot of money and I don’t know who’s paid most but I’m sure

It’s about wanting the most. Not defending it but it’s capitalism if someone is dumb enough to pay him 250 million then who would blame him for taking it

Sad thing is, another team will give him what he wants. As for our world . Don’t get me started.

Just to play devils advocate…do you (or would you) work in a job where you aren’t paid what you feel yourself to be worth…or below what you think the market might pay?
Conversely, companies don’t generally pay folks more than they are worth. This is the system we’ve built, no?

Probably not. But I can’t imagine how anyone can justify that what they do is “worth” several million dollars a year. I made good money during my career and feel like the pay for the amount of work put in was fair to all parties but I still just cannot wrap my mind around anyone “deserving” that much money. I feel the same way about CEOs, film/music/TV entertainers, coaches and politicians. I may just have old fashioned values, but IMO no one “needs” that much money.

Yea but my job is thousands not millions. 250 is stupid imo. My mind does not comprehend thinking I’m worth 250 million to hit a ball. That could help all those homeless folks the news keep showing living in tents along the road in San Fran. Who knows he may help a lot of folks though I have no idea. Just crazy.

Still don’t understand Freeman needing 6 years vs 5 years and that being a deal breaker.

Yeah, I’m with you. I think Forrest Gump’s Mama said it best…”Theres only so much fortune a man needs…and the rest is just for showing off”. Some folks will interpret that as a criticism of capitalism. However, it’s not capitalism’s fault that many with ungodly fortunes don’t choose to help make the world a better place for others. To me it’s a moral imperative that those who can, should.

Its called capitalism

Where the wealthiest 1% of Americans control about $41.52 trillion, according to Federal Reserve data.
Yet the bottom 50% of Americans only control about $2.62 trillion collectively, roughly 16 times less than those in the top 1%.
While there is no better system in the world, in my opinion, we need to make some changes to save the middle class and stop the current trends.
It's not a conservative or liberal issue, it's for the economic health of all.
Now having said all that....
WRONG BORED MORAN (just-kidding, why this is the Amp ya'll)

Seen on a treasury report that with the stimulus money issued this year that 40 plus percent will not pay any taxes. Unreal when you are talking 30 trillion in debt. It’s the tax code we have so not really anything we can do about it. On the Braves telecast last night they touched on the additional taxes Freeman will pay in LA versus what he was paying in Atl. I’m guessing these athletes in New York and California get something in the contract to offset that cost.

The mega-rich have enough money to avoid taxes (pay politicians, hide money in tax-havens, hire the best accountants/lawyers, etc.).
The poor can't pay taxes.
So who foots the bill? Middle-class, small business owners, etc.
What happens when the middle-class shrinks? The slow degradation of infrastructure like we are seeing now.
The Boomers had a great healthy middle class, got their retirements, house-investments, and shut the door behind them.

I agree with all of that with one question. How did the Boomers “shut the door behind them”?

I get your point and there are some good points made above. That said- these guys are trying to make their entire life’s income plus plus plus before they are 30-35. If they get hurt- they typically get much less. That’s not true for you and me. There was also a point made about “feeling like you’re worth” a certain amount. Anyones worth is what they provide to their company. How much does Judge sell in merch alone? Then tickets and viewership etc etc? I don’t see it as a ego or greed thing- it’s simply maximizing your opportunity. There may be things he doesn’t like about NY too. Who knows.
