and keep winning than starting at 11th and hoping 7 in the top 10 lose. Starting HIGH is ALWAYS better. Can't think of any downside to that.

Seriously? "Nobody smart actually cares"....really? (...backhanded insult not withstanding...) That is quite a statement! To make such a claim, not only would one have to know the opinion of ALL smart people everywhere; one would even have to know the IQ of every person on earth as well as their opinion of preseason college football polls...that's 7.5 billion people (give or take a few million).
Do the polls mean anything? Absolutely not! Just ask Nick Saban. They are opinions; I get it. But, hey, I'm just making a meaningless observation, duh, stupid 'ol me!
Anyway...other polls put the Tigers anywhere from 4th-7th...
College Football News - 4th
AP - 5th
USA/Coaches - 5th
Sporting News- 5th
CBS - 6th
SI - 7th
FoxSports (Klatt) - 11th
It just seems a bit odd to me that his opinion of this year's squad deviates further to the south than what's reflected in the other polls.

Since when is being ranked in the top 11 of a preseason poll a bad thing?
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Some people on the outside are still skeptical because of personnel losses.
