We won the national championship. Friday should be an indication of where we’re headed after this year. I think we’re gonna get better and better and better. I think Dabo might’ve been caught off guard a little bit this year but he won’t from now on. He is too smart. Remember 1980 we beat South Carolina 27 to 6 after a difficult season the next year we won the national championship.

This is how many people felt after our bye week and wins against UNC and Boston College. We were "getting better and better". Then SMU and Duke smacked us in the mouth. I'm not getting fooled again...I'll believe it when I see it at this point.

He was the first black QB in Clemson history, and he was one of the few in ACC history. I got this photo with him a few years ago.

EXACTLY!!! I was a freshman then, and I felt we had lost so many close games that we were due for a bunch of wins the next year. I still have the letter I sent my wife before the 1981-82 season saying how we would win every game. My only mistake was I had us beating Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl in instead of Nebraska. Go Tigers!!!

Danny was still early building his program and team culture.
What has happened this season has been the result of a steady 3-year decline in elite player talent. Think of how many 5-star players over the past 3 years that Clemson has lost to a higher paying team.
I would say that Clemson has lost somewhere in the range of at least dozen such elite players. Remember the likes of Stephon Anthony, and yes, I know that CDS got a 5-star from the TP. Clemson was attracting this kind of athlete, combined with getting the best character elite players.
Cade, as a 5-star, cannot do much on his own. He has to be surrounded by many high 4-stars and multiple 5-stars at different class levels.
It is literally so obvious to me what is happening, and many posters on this board saw this player talent decline coming from a mile away.
Clemson does not have the $35M per year to fill out a championship caliber roster.
