Watson

Jan 28, 2021, 10:32 AM

Some folks here seem to think just because he is a former Tiger that he is special and has the right to be spoiled. He has gotten " above his raisings" as the old folks say and gotten into politics and thinking he has a right to coach and manage the team etc. He is being paid VERY WELL to play QB. Let him do that and SHUT UP !!

I agree with you on his activist role. I am disappointed in some of the things he has said and done. He is a multi-millionaire now and a very good pro QB and speaks his mind. I just hope he doesn't take the Kaepernick route.

Re: Watson

I know you are trolling and trying to turn Clemson fans against Watson, but this seems like as good of a place to post my feeling on this as any.

The Texans screwed over Deshaun. When they took the lazy way out and gave Bill O'Brien full GM and coaching control, they let him ruin not only the roster but also the payroll and future drafts.

There is no "stick it out and let the team improve around you" because there is no payroll or draft picks available to improve the team. Deshaun's current contract would be almost expired before the Texans have a chance to even make the playoffs again without major roster overhaul that includes their best players.

I think Deshaun is actually doing Houston a favor because the only way they can start to make any improvements in the next couple of years is to dump Deshaun and JJ Watt's contracts and start over with a little cap space to play with.

Advising Deshaun to "shut up and play" is something the old folks say. Something else the "old folks" say is "the people in charge must be in charge for a reason, so let them do their job". Well that clearly isn't true in Houston, so Deshaun would have to be a complete idiot to "shut up and play" while the Texans ruin his health and his career with bad choice after bad choice.

The "old folks" don't like the internet much either. Maybe you should hop off the computer and find something a little more "old school" and to your liking. You are way off base with your comments on Deshaun.

Re: Watson

Jan 28, 2021, 11:09 AM

You are calling him a brat as if he is 13 years old.

He isn't some child who is mad that the coach didn't play him in JV football so he is leaving the team.

He is a grown man. He is making business decisions based on his and his family's livelihood.

Check the number of times he has been hit compared to other NFL QBs in the same time frame.

Check his passing rankings this season compared to his team's record.

Check the team's history of getting rid of his best weapons.

His closest comparison in the NFL is playing in his 2nd consecutive Super Bowl and has had an offensive juggernaut built around him. Meanwhile the Texans are letting Will Fuller hit the road in free agency.

He is making business decisions and getting his guaranteed contract and then getting out of Houston are both excellent decisions.

Your jealousy that he is having his cake and eating it too is a reflection on you and not him.

As are the rest of us. If my career was being jeopardized, I promise I would find a way to extract myself from that situation. As for his political and social views...he has a right to his...just as you have a right to yours.

I will always cheer for DW4 and his success even if I might not always agree with him. I can disagree without ugliness.

Re: He shouldn't have signed the 5 year extension if he didn't

Jan 28, 2021, 12:34 PM

He had to sign the deal to be able to get the "no trade clause" fixed in so the Texans couldn't dump him against his will to another franchise that was just as bad.

He is making calculated business decisions to protect himself and to try to improve his situation.

If the organization would have made moves to build around him, he would have never gotten to this point of wanting out.

Instead they keep tearing down around him with no hope of building things back for several years.

Again as I said earlier, the fact that he wants out after signing the contract is great for the Texans because dealing him is one of the only ways they can clear some cap space and get some assets in return. His contract will follow him and the next team will know they are guaranteed to have him for an extended period.

I am absolutely shocked at the number of "poor Texans" type comments that people have in regards to this situation.

Re: Where is ANY evidence that the Texans were going to trade

Jan 28, 2021, 2:20 PM

They didn't sign him to the contract to be able to trade him. I realize that.

What I mean is that if he didn't sign the huge deal, then he could leave and the Texans would barely be able to get anything in return.

The fact that they got him to sign prior to demanding a trade means now the Texans can demand trade value that equals Watson's contract and his play on the field.

If Watson only had 1 more year on his deal, teams would be more likely to wait it out and see if they could get him in the free agency market or send low ball trade offers and then the Texans are left empty handed.

The deal also let Deshaun ink the no trade clause to protect himself from getting sent somewhere terrible.

A departure wasn't guaranteed when he signed, but now that he wants out, it's best for both sides that he has already signed his deal.

Hope that cleared up any confusion on that.

The "poor Texans" - I guess I misjudged your comment but I have seen so many people who say he should have to stick it out and honor his commitment to his team instead of leaving the Texans hanging. As if NFL teams are these honorable entities that are at the mercy of all of the players bullying them.

Deshaun is actually one of the few in the NFL who has any power as NFL players can be cut at any time in their contract for any reason and the teams are completely void of any responsibility towards money owed in the agreement unless it was stipulated as guaranteed money. This happens to veteran players all the time when teams are looking to get out from under old players with big money so they can replace them with someone younger for close to the league minimum.

If you are not in that category, then I apologize for lumping you in to the "poor Texans" comment.

Re: Watson

Jan 28, 2021, 11:13 AM

In his contract, the Texans agreed to keep him informed on coaching changes. He found out that Hopkins was traded on social media, as well as other trades that they didn’t inform him of. If he stays with the Texans, it’s a matter of time before he sustains serious injury, possibly needing his career. They clearly don’t see getting him an offensive line as a priority, which would enable him to help the team win.

I’m sure your opinion of him keeping his mouth shut would be different if his views aligned more with yours.
Watson has not been that outspoken and he has the right to voice his opinion, just like you do.
Yet, you, old white man, want him to not “get above his raising”, just shut up and play the game.
How about if somebody paid you well, would you shut up?

*ending not needing .
Also, Deshaun Watson is not a brat, as you call him. He’s come from a poor, single parent home, worked his ### off, stayed humble, and faithful to God. He’s done more for Clemson University and his communities than you ever could do.

TigersO has proven that the "old folks" are more intelligent than he is. As for the social media approval, he certainly does have a right to make his opinions known. I never said he didn't. However, there is a time and place for everything. If you are protesting the national anthem, explain to the parents, husbands, mothers, and children whose loved came home in a body bag or wheelchair why you are doing so.

Re: puh-leez***

Jan 28, 2021, 12:23 PM

You said I have proved "old folks" are smarter than me.

Then you proceed to talk about protesting the national anthem, which I didn't mention.

I'm not here to debate kneeling for the anthem. I stand and place my hand over my heart each and every time I hear the national anthem played at an event. That's my choice and I'm sure others choose differently.

What I have discussed is Deshaun Watson's good decision to take a stand against an organization that is torpedoing his career.

I put "old folks" in quotes because I am not talking about older people, but I am talking about those people who claim that "back in my day" needs to be referenced to explain why anything and everything done differently is wrong.

You insult my intelligence and then struggle with reading comprehension. I have no idea where social media or the national anthem came from regarding anything I have posted on this topic. That's a rough look for you.
