Been Checking Stubhub 6 times a day

Dec 3, 2018, 7:35 PM

Seems intense, but trying to figure out if and when prices will either jump or creep down... and best time to buy. Interesting that between yesterday and today SRO has jumped but uppers have come down slightly.
Any feedback would be appreciated. Used points three months ago to book my flight and staying with a friend so all I need are two tix!

How did that work in Tampa?

Worked great in Glendale.

Re: wait till a little before kickoff***

Exactly. This is a semi-final game and it's an 15 hour drive from Indiana.

Tampa was ridiculous as prices kept going up even after kickoff. Glendale was the opposite, even though it, too was a Championship game.

Semifinals, coupled with "too far to drive" will see tickets at or near face value by gameday.

Since I plan on going and haven't bought my ticket yet, I encourage everyone to go ahead and get their tickets RIGHT NOW! :)

Assuming ND fans are coming from Indiana is a bad assumption. I would venture to say the majority of ND students are from outside Indiana. ND fans are worldwide and many have never been to South Bend for a game.

According to the Texas almanac there are more than 4.6 million Catholics in Texas. I'm guessing they will travel well.

Man that’s so risky for a game like this isn’t it?
Pulled it off for USC, but this is a semifinal
Appreciate the quick response

This. Buyers panic close to kickoff. They could go up, but only if ticket demand is very high.

I may be wrong but I think our game is going up. First time ND in cfp means big demand by Irish fans

I believe this will be a sell out! Will enjoy at home with feet up and drinking a brew and not cold and wet like last Saturday. What is the best food to have with the Irish?

Wait til right before the game. Don't pay these crazy high prices. Prices will start to go down as there are more and more tickets still available

Jerry World is a big stadium. I’m guessing in the neighborhood of 8000-12000 unsold the day of the game. Those may be the ones sold for locals.

From my personal experience... AT LEAST WAIT until both fan bases' tickets have been distributed. Those 40ish thousand tickets flood the market, bringing prices down (if only temporarily sometimes).

I'm not sure what to expect with ND (First CFP for them, and they travel well), but it is still a long trip for both teams (as will be the Natty for the winner). If it was anybody besides ND, or a school within driving distance to Dallas, I would wait as long as possible, but with ND's fan base, that might be risky.

Past experience... (I considered less than a 10 hour drive "close")

Far for both teams: 2015 Orange, 2015 NC, 2016 Fiesta
Prices held pretty steady until tickets were distributed to the schools. They then dropped majorly the week leading up to the game. Tickets could be had for well under face value in every section. Get in price was under $100 by the day before the game

Close for 1 team: Sugar 2017
Prices held around face leading up to the game (after school distributions). They dropped some day of game, but it was mostly the bad uppers. Lowers never really dropped below about $250 or so as I recall

Close for both teams: 2016 Natty, 2017 Natty
Prices went through the roof. Lowest price was within the 24 hours after tickets were distributed to schools, but get in price never dropped below about $800 and went up from there.

I think this game will be most similar to the Sugar bowl last year. I think they'll hold around face or likely a little above, just due to travel distance. Day before or day of I could see the nosebleeds/SRO dropping a decent amount lowering the get in price, but I don't see club/lowers ever getting much below face. ND will travel well, and I would expect it to be nearly 75% ND (like 2016 Fiesta was for OSU). Many Clemson fans will save their money for the Natty.

One last tip: Follow amystickets here on Tnet. Doesn't post often, but is a broker, and knows her stuff. Predictions have been dead on the last few postseasons.

Sugar last year

Dec 5, 2018, 11:17 PM [ in reply to Re: Been Checking Stubhub 6 times a day ]

Your analysis matches my experiences except Sugar last year. I ended up with 2 extra lower bowl tickets and tried to sell them about 5 days out and had to take about $50 less than face. I had bought them for about $75 over face about 3 weeks before - big mistake.

I am thinking ticket prices will drop on the Cotton relative to the Sugar. Alabama fans travel well and the Sugar was in their backyard plus flights are already incredibly expensive from everywhere. I could be wrong but I am waiting to buy - as you said at least waiting until the fan bases get their tickets.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Alabama fans do NOT travel well

Dec 6, 2018, 8:41 AM

ND has fans everywhere who will pay. Also last year one broker controlled about 15,000 Sugar Bowl tickets. That broker also thought Alabama travelled well because that broker does not know college football. So they kept prices too high early and did not sell enough inventory.

This year no one broker controls more than 1000 tickets and inventory is going down quickly. I would buy next week sometime personally. After Christmas, brokers will control most of the inventory and there will be lots of late ND buyers. Prices should come down the next two weeks but could and I think will go up leading up to the game.

Last note, the same broker who had 15,000 Sugar last year has 15,000 National Championship this year. That ticket will be extremely cheap. Less than Phoenix NC.

Dec 6, 2018, 8:34 AM [ in reply to Re: Been Checking Stubhub 6 times a day ]

Thank you. Good info you provided. Keep waiting but there are signs this game might pop late. A whole lot of inventory has been eaten up. I have sold 450 since Sunday night. A broker in Dallas bought my last 50 uppers for $240 Tuesday night.

Don’t be afraid of standing room only at this stadium. It provides great site lines. You can see everything with some good views. I would buy before December 21. Probably December 15-21 is my best guess.

For National Championship, the game will be close to free. Wait as long as possible for tickets much less than face.

Dec 6, 2018, 9:00 AM

SRO at Cowboy stadium is awful unless you are there extremely early and get a spot on the rail. If not you will be standing with thousands of people watching on a screen. Often people with standing room end up outside watching on the screen there. If they release all the standing room tickets it holds 30k. Good luck!

What makes you think NC will be "close to free?" When would you recommend buying NC tickets?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I bought mine on Sunday, and prices have risen slightly

Dec 4, 2018, 3:25 PM

But usually the day or two after the booster's tickets go out a ton hit the market.

I prolly should have waited but I got excited and panicky.

I'm in the wait and see crowd as well. Hoping that since the stadium holds 100k, this is our 4th straight year, it's not very close to either school, will all mean prices drop significantly.

ND is a wild card though which concerns me.

I just called the Cotton Bowl and they aren’t opening Standing Room as of now. Stub hub pulled those listings.
