we lost to AP #4 Kansas who would be eliminated before the final. UNC had won 18 straight games in 2001 and appeared unbeatable. We completely derailed their season. After starting 21-2, they closed 5-5. Our best win in 2017-18 was against #18 Miami. Poot. Brad Sucks!

a regular season game that didn't affect either team going forward...UNC still went to the NCAAs and we still finished 9th place in a 9 team league...As a matter of fact, that victory over UNC was 50% of our conference wins that season and was the lone W during a 13 game streak...Talk about POOT...Now go get your shinebox

We didn't win a championship of any sort either season. You have offered nothing persuasive about a Round of 32 game against Auburn being a better victory. The correct answer to the original query would have been ending the streak at Chapel Hill. That would be a closer call. I'll still take the win over #1 UNC.

yes because the #19 team is clearly more significant than a conference rival ranked #1 in the country on an 18 game win streak. it was a very good win by Brad Brownell standards though.

This is the only valid argument. I disagree. UNC were trash that year. We should have won. And that victory extended Brownell's leash - a net negative. But I can at least appreciate the argument. Thinking that beating #19 Auburn in the Round of 32 (the only other point made so far), solely because it took place in the post season, shows how debilitated our expectations are in the Brownell era. We fired Shyatt after year 5 because we believed we could be better. We retained Brownell after 13 years because our admin and a segment of our fanbase believe we can't.

I'm definitely not with you on this one. Doesn't matter how good we were or how good they were, all that matters was ending the streak. How many times did you hear something about Clemson having never won at Chapel Hill? A million? Easily more meaningful than Shyatt's win vs #1. That wasn't even Clemson's first win vs #1

It was kind of luck of the draw, someone was going to do it eventually, but truly this is the only legacy he will have. That and all the millions of dollars he’s grifted out of Clemson. And all the losses. He will be remembered.

Everyone who knows anything about basketball understands you judge a head coach on conference road win percentage as compared to the worst coach in recent school history. It’s laughable when they try to bring in other metrics like overall wins/losses, conference regular season rankings, ACC tournament finishes, post season appearances, post season wins, top 25 rankings, etc…

…still talking about this?
This problem got me riled up again after the Morehead State debacle, and I got on a diatribe about Dusty May at FAU.
I can’t explain why I got emotionally involved again about the Clemson men’s basketball team. Somewhere deep inside of me, I guess I do care. But, I’ve got to seriously CURB MY ENTHUSIASM. Any coaching change here is totally up to Brownell.
I’ll crawl back under my rock for Clemson men’s basketball.

Any update on why that game was "meaningful"?
Did clemson turn the corner after this game? Did this when help propel clemson in the ACC standings, or help us get into the tournament?
I dont see how "derailing" UNC's season is in anyway meaningful to clemson basketball.
I would argue that most wins in the 2017/2018 regular season were all more "meaningful" than us beating #1 UNC

Very neat trick how they “went on to win the ACC” despite losing to Duke in the conference championship - their arch rival who would would go on to win the NCAA tournament. I’m sure that season ranks way up there to the average UNC fan.

What do we have to show for any season? Brad has been here 13 years and so far his staunchest supporters have offered exactly 2 choices that are arguably better that the best Larry Shyatt mustered in 5. Brad probably doesn’t want you in his corner if this is the best you can do.

It’s almost as though you are unaware that the ACC does not recognize the regular season “champion” as the actual ACC Champion of that season - evidenced by the list of prior season champions available here: https://theacc.com/sports/mbball/The official Men's Basketball page for Atlantic Coast Conference . Winning the regular season makes you the top seed in the ACC tourney. Winning the ACC tourney makes you the ACC Champion. Described any other way is a misnomer, regardless of how commonly it is done.

First-ever victory in Chapel Hill. Something no other coach has done. Now go back to the Lunatic Fringe Clubhouse and lock the door. You are going to be extremely disappointed this year because the 2023-24 Tigers are going to be better than last year's team. Brownell is America's least appreciated coach. But he keeps on working. Clemson fans need to get on board.

Exactly this team won 23 games last year and beat UNC but it was not enough for some fans. It would be different if this was Duke or UNC where they had a history of historic teams this is Clemson a football school where the basketball team is overachieving.
