Advice...

I have been using TigerNet for quite a while, mostly for Clemson sports, but I figured I would try to get some advice on a personal issue
I just moved into a new apt complex that is closer to my work and stayed my first night last night. I waa in my apt alone at 1030 last night watching a movie when I got a knock at the door. It was the fuzz asking me to turn down my tv bc they got a complaint. I told the officer no problem and turned it down to a barely audible level. I ended up falling asleep in my recliner wjen o got another knock at the door 5am from the same officer saying they received a complaint from the same individual. Even the cop said it wasnt loud.
Leaving my tv on helps me to sleep and I had it at a reasonable level. I am trying not to be angry and be respectful but this os an apt complex and there will always be noise. I just feel like im being bullied and dont think I should make unreasonable concessions (cutting off my tv at 10pm) bc someone wants to overly complain.
Just want to know if anyone has advice considering im a 27 yr old guy who loves sports and having friends over this could progress. Thanks for responses

complaining.
Most municipalities require the complainant to show up in court to attest to the noise violation. Ask the officer next time what the deal is.

I can't imagine more than a 30 minute firewall between units. Go fast and hot.

it really depends on how loud it really is and what time

it is.
Without being there I can't answer. The way you described it sounds like the other person is being totally unreasonable. But I'm always skeptical with these situations because both sides portray the situation in a way where everyone would side with them (well hows that possible?).
I would find out some basic information first. 1) are there rules in the complex regarding "quiet" hours. That will help determine how hard to fight for the nighttime TV issue. If there are established quiet hours, I wouldn't fight that one. 2) You need to talk with the lease office and tell them the situation and find out about the penalties. 3) You need to figure out who it is complaining. Maybe you have some old lady or a ###### which might be a delicate situation vs. some random guy trying to start #### with you.
When I lived in an apartment I was on the other side of the situation, but I never called the cops (in fact they called the cops on me when I knocked on their door and flipped out on them. But it was not a loud TV, it was much more severe things and it was like 10 altercations that progressively got worse.

be proactive. talk to your neighbors. see if you can handle it with just simple talking. be super nice. apologize, even if you don't mean it. neighbors are weird. it is much easier to try to make friends and work/talk it out. could be something simple. but be nice first and make a few notes afterwards (name/time/date/next step etc.). if things go south and the neighbor turn into an even bigger a-hole, you'll have a better case. i cant believe they called the police just for the tv. good luck.

And it's crap compared to firing a 12 gauge beanbag round into the testicles of the offending party, followed immediately by a clever and snarky verbal tagline.

Talk to your apartment manager and tell them you are getting noise complaints even with the tv turned down real low. I'm guessing you are in an upstairs unit. Sound will travel downstairs pretty easy. Try to see if the person directly below you is the one comparing. Lets be real. The complaints will not stop. See if they can move you to a downstairs unit in another location.

lease. I was serious about the bass. It will resonate bad even at low volumes. Just throwing that out in case you have a system. Had a neighbor once that had a sound system. In his apartment it sounded reasonable. In mine, it was annoying as he'll. Cut the bass down and it was okay. Viva La treble!
