Trying to interpret Lane Kiffin's comments and the coaching carousel.

Here is my attempt, but I'm going from memory. I lost my Kiffin Decoder Ring.

It's not what he's saying, it is what he is not saying. He is not saying, "I'm staying at Ole Miss. I will be the coach at Ole Miss next year."

It's not what he's doing, it's what he's not doing. All reports are that Ole Miss has offered him an extension. Unlike Matt Rhule and Mike Elko, he hasn't signed it.

My conclusion -

1. He has made up his mind where he is going. He won't be staying at Ole Miss. For any of several possible reasons, he has decided not to make that decision public yet.

OR
ade up his mind. He is still weighing his options. He really doesn't know whether he will stay at Ole Miss or accept another job offer.

But, remember this -

Most prognosticators are saying it is between Ole Miss and uf. uf fans are upset because reports were he would announce on Sunday he was heading to uf.

But, there are other possibilities that no one is talking about. (Remember just a few years ago the rumors were - to the point of certaintly - Lincoln Riley was going from OU to LSU. It was supposed to be announced the Sunday after OU's last game. Riley kept insisting, "I will not be the HC at LSU next year. Nobody believed him. He told the truth. On that Sunday he was accepting the job at USC, which nobody had talked about, and Kelly was on his way to LSU, which nobody had talked about.)

AD's, agents, and coaches are getting very good as distracting from the truth. I'm not predicting any of the following will happen, just saying all are possible.

1. He stays at Ole Miss. He's just trolling uf and the media.
2. He's going to another school?
a. Auburn?
b. LSU?
b. What if Sexton knows Sark is leaving TX and going to the NFL and Sexton, Kiffin and uf have agreed Kiffin is heading to Austin?

Once again, I'm not saying any of those three schools are even a remote possibility in Lane's mind. Just saying I've been burned way too often trying to figure out the carousel that I'm no longer surprised by much of anything.

If you forced me to guess I would say the most likely outcome is he goes to uf. I hope I'm wrong.

I think he'll be limited in success if he stays at Ole Miss. A lot more money to play with and much better recruiting in Florida.

But he already has his system in place at ole miss. They are more than likely going to make the playoffs this season. Might as well stay and continue the success. Life lessons should have taught him this. Leaving Tennessee and going to USC. This will be the same thing fact situation all over again.

Well, you’re right …he is leaving… some say to FL, others to LSU .. and he may be considering the NFL, to Miami …they’ll have a new GM and will draft or trade for Tua’s replacement .. why not have a QB guru for him, though the Giants just fired their coach.. maybe coach his ol’ QB (Dart) there ..

If he leaves, he will go to Florida would be my guess since he has house there and daughters were basically raised in Florida. But here is the 'But', his daughter is Volleyball player at USCw, there is possibility Lincoln Riley is gone and Kiffen might go to USC. They have BIG money so just think what he could buy there?

I doubt he is at OLe miss next yr.

If $$$$ is his main goal, he is in a great spot. Either a new team will pay dearly, AND he has great leverage with Ole Miss to bend them over for more $$$$ as well....

Or is it ego and he wants to win a natty and he is all in for that, and he will still get paid.

Dude is in a great spot and holds all the cards.

He does hold all the cards. I highly doubt he'd go to Auburn. Not going back to usc. I think he sees Florida as a lateral move. It wouldn't have been lateral 10 years ago but $$$ to players is a great equalizer. I think he stays at ole miss unless one of two jobs open up, Bama or Texas.

The last thing I see is him going to the NFL.

My guess is NFL return or he stays

If I were him, I’d try my hand at the NFL again. My money is the Giants and a reunion or he sticks at Ole Miss. Let’s say he makes $10M a year at OM, but he get’s offered $14 at Florida. His lifestyle doesn’t change, he’s competing in the same conference, fighting over NIL and portal like he was at OM. NFL would be a new challenge and he would be able to focus on football again. Many college coaches have moved to the NFL to get away from the uncontrollable NIL/portal mess.

Objectively, LSU seems like an easier place to win

They have a recruiting advantage in their home state thats only rivaled (possibly) by Ohio State, and they're one of only two programs to win a title with 3 different head coaches this century (Ohio State being the other again).

Florida can obviously win too with the right coach, but it feels like more things have to go right. LSU won titles with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron. Both of those guys were good recruiters, but not exactly genius coaches. I think that speaks alot to LSUs potential.

I don't know, that whole AD vs. Governor mess

Lane says, "It's not about the money. It's never been about the money. Jimmy Sexton hates for me to say that, but it's true."

Meanwhile, Jimmy is telling Lane, "OK. It's not about the money. You want to stay at Ole Miss. Great. Just don't sign that extension yet. It's not about the money. But, I can get you a little more if you'll just wait a week or two. It's not about the money, but you wouldn't turn it down, would you?"
