The ACC didn’t have the foresight to see that was where the money was at, if they had things would be much different for us.

Well adding VT, Pitt, Miami and FSU should have helped football. However, they dropped to a lower level and their basketball teams got better. It seems that whatever the ACC tried to do early on failed. Just like taking SMU, Cal and Stanford will do

Dinking around for years talking network and not doing jack hurt. Then the GOR give away deal Swoff negotiated really hurt. Instead of reading ESPN was pro SEC and trying to use Fox as a lever he caved in and got us another Raycom

Don’t forget about the alliance created with the other conferences. That worked out great for us😂😂.

All media negotiations had a stipulation of including Swofford's son's Raycom in the mix. That limited the possibilities, which limited the market reach. And here we are.
Kids want to play for the teams they saw on TV growing up. That could've been ACC teams. But Swofford was too short-sighted, incompetent and self-serving.

We should be better than we are. In the 90’s and not so much with Clemson during those years but VT, Miami, GT and Florida State were a lot better programs than they are today. We do have what used to be considered football schools but they joined the ACC and have been on a downhill slide.

Absolutely, but Allowing North Carolina to control so much didn’t help at all.
Championships should have been moved around and football pushed in Florida, SC & Georgia.

I for one was glad the ACC baseball tourney is back in Charlotte this coming year.
The ACC basketball tourney makes a lot sense in NC but dang big advantage for the NC schools.

There wasn't any trying to it. The reason the ACC became a basketball conference is because it's easier for small schools to compete in basketball. The teams only have about 15 players, and take much fewer resources, so the smaller schools are on a more level playing field.
Football needs 80-100 players, and takes massive resources ro support them. Bigger schools have much mire advantage here. If you look at the original ACC schools, Clemson, Duke, Wake Forest, are all relatively small, compared to the other P5 conference schools. Even Virginia and North Carolina are relatively small, compared to other state flagship schools. Georgia Tech, Pitt, Syracuse, NC, and Miami are fairly small as well. Compete that to the SEC and Big Ten, which have a bunch of large state flagship schools.
The ACC schools were just better equipped to complete in basketball than football.

Yea I was surprised at Miami’s small size, and was not aware they were private. I wonder how many of their football players graduated from their teams of the 80’s.
