Dabo is older than Allen by a few months. When I first saw Allen I thought he was in his 60's. Now that I look around Dabo looks a good bit younger than myself (51) and others in the same age range. Slow day at the office folks...

I see Allen as a guy that may have decided that he never wants to be a head coach again and wants to settle into a long term position in a place that he wants to live. If he works out as DC (and I think he will) that would be really good for us. Nothing better than a man the realizes his limits and is content to be comfortable in what he does well.

This is what I stress to my kids all the time. Find what makes you happy. Nothing wrong with taking risks but if you find something you're good at, enjoy it, and it works out then stick with it.

In the 1980's I had a lawn service. I loved that work and I still do. In my mind I wonder what I would have developed that into if I had just stuck with it. Instead I jumped into being a corporate cog so I could use my degree. I earn a really good living, but it just sucks. I reached my ceiling about 10 years ago and this is as far as I go. As I get closer and closer to retirement it is just a long hard slog. Perspective being clearer as I age, that is one move I wish I could have back.

One hopeful sign in the latest generation is that they are more driven to work to live and not live to work. It's not all bad with all the other negatives that could be heaped on them.

He seems to love coaching defense and being able to work closely with players.
