Top Ten Football Players at Clemson Since 1970:
Feb 26, 2016, 12:13 PM
|
|
1. DeShaun Watson (can he be #1 after only two years? Well he did finish higher in the Heisman voting than any CU player ever and led us to a better finish than any player other than Homer Jordan in our history) 2. CJ Spiller 3. Terry Kinard 4. Sammy Watkins 5. Anthony Simmons 6. Jeff Davis 7. Steve Fuller 8. Bennie Cunningham 9. William Perry 10. Joe Bostic
Only 7 Clemson football players have been named ACC player of the year since 1970. 5 are on the list above (Watson, Spiller, Fuller, William Perry, and Jeff Davis). ACC players of the year missing are Michael Dean Perry and Tajh Boyd.
Nine Clemson players were named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary team in 2002 (Joe Bostic, Jerry Butler, Bennie Cunningham, Steve Fuller, Terry Kinard, Michael Dean Perry, William Perry, and Anthony Simmons. All but Butler and MD Perry are on my list above. Obviously the players who played after 2002 weren't eligible to be on the 50th anniversary team).
Apologies to so many offensive and defensive lineman left off this list. There are just too many and it's so hard to stand out over others when it is so many.

Very true, I agree with this. B Dawk was and always will be one of my favorites of all time but he made his name in the NFL. I really hope he sees the HOF someday but it'll be tough with Palomalu and Ed Reed ahead of him and the relative dearth of safeties that get inducted

I'll nominate Keith Adams for consideration.
I'm too lazy to type highlights myself so I'll copy from wikipedia.
"Following his 1999 sophomore season, he registered 186 tackles (led the nation), 35 tackles for loss (led the nation) and 16 sacks (second in the nation). He received first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and Football News first-team All-American honors. As a junior in 2000, he was again a first-team All-ACC selection and was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American."

Daquan Bowers and Dwayne Allen should probably be on that list. Both were national POY at their positions.

I'm not sure the TE position warrants that kind of ranking.

Woody and Nuk are the two I would throw in there.
I still stand by my statement that Nuk will have the best NFL career out of all Clemson players

I was born in 1994 so my sample size is smaller but Cj Spiller is the best player I've seen in my lifetime. His ACC championship game performance vs GT in Tampa is he greatest game I've ever seen an individual play. He literally almost won that game completely by himself. That performance doesn't get talked about enough. I was there in person; I've never seen a performance like that
