There are times when I'm feeling accomplished that I credit myself to a small degree for Clelin selecting Clemson as where he wanted to play college football.

I was in Clemson with a friend for a Spring Game and we were staying at the Holiday Inn. At around 6:00am, I woke up and went downstairs to smoke. Soon, a lady came outside to smoke and I invited her to sit on the bench with me. As we talked, I realized she was there with her son Clelin who was on a football visit. When I asked her about what position he played and what his specialty was, she said she really didn't know much about football - she was just there with him to see what the academics might be like, because to her, the most important thing was for him to get a good education and beyond that, she didn't care what he did with football..... to her, the most important thing was for him to get a degree. We talked for over an hour on that bench outside and I went back to my room, took a shower and my friend and I came back downstairs for breakfast.

WE=e had just started to eat when she cam into the dining room with Clelin. When she saw me, she made a bee-line to my table and was dragging Clelin with her. We talked football for a while and I asked Clelin what he was looking for in a school. He told me the same things as his mother had said - a good education. I explained to him that the time I spent at Clemson was the best investment I had ever made in myself and hoped he would choose Clemson for his college days. They went about their day and so did I, but I watched as he committed to Clemson and have followed his progress on and off the field ever since. I'm extremely proud of him and what he's become. What is really terrific to me is that he has done it himself through his buy-in to our program and has become a terrific example of what can be done through commitment and hard work.

I may be his biggest fan other than his mother.

Great story Tiger66....and thanks. Cle has been one of my all time favorites. Great attitude and always spoke from the heart. And spoke well. Super dude that we will all continue to follow on his continued journey. Thanks to mom for her guidance and trust in our coaches to allow her son to be Clemson Tiger. Go forth and prosper

The thought maybe hasn't come across his mind right now, but one day I'm sure Cle will feel that Clemson was the best choice that he could have made as you do now, Go Tigers, and thanks for sharing!!!
