More back room negotiations between SEC and B1G...

.... as we move closer to a SuperLeague.

B1G wanted SEC to move to 9 game schedule. SEC has agreed.

Now, what does SEC want that B1G will give them?

Or have they agreed to something like a 16 team format with no automatic bids. Just pick the best 16 teams?

Who knows? I don't. But, I am convinced there are continual negotiations going on between SEC, B1G, ESPN, Fox and NBC.

I think the 9 game schedule was Petitti’s condition for accepting the 5 + 11 playoff model. That is, 5 highest ranked conference champs and 11 at-large. The “Little 3” support this model, so I’d expect that ultimate result.

Personally, even though the SEC and B1G will dominate those 11 at-large, I still prefer not institutionalizing a permanent unequal number of AQs.

ACC 9 game schedule will leave us with the coots, ND and a single spot for Georgia, Oklahoma, LSU, Furman, Citadel, etc.. Some seasons will end up with 6 home games!

We will have to pay some ACC schools to ply their home games at Clemson for the money. Teams like Wake, Duke, SMU with small stadiums.
Both teams would get a bigger payday….

New reality.

Go Tigers, Beat LSU!

What the frick is difficult about scheduling 9 conf games for the ACC?!?!? 17 teams - 16 teams to play - 2 perm opponents (Fsu and Gt or Nc st for us) then 14 teams left - play 7 one year for 9 games and 7 the next. You get to see everyone in the league every 2 years and home and home with everybody in 4 years. What is the problem??

The math doesn’t work out, you can’t have an off number of teams play an odd number of games

Also, you do know the ACC used to have 9 teams when FSU first joined !!

Yeah, and they played an even number of games back then. If you have 17 teams play 9 games each, you get an odd number of games, meaning one team would either have to play 10 or 8 games for it to work

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

clembird it would be an end

To power 4 matchups like LSU or Georgia. Instead of playing LSU we would play another crappy ACC team. SofS will suffer.

The problem is that ACC games are usually snoozefests.
There isn’t going to be the same buzz around an ACC game that there is for an LSU, UGA, or Bama, etc.

Hope the ACC follows suit. No reason we should be playing Furman or SCSU or FL ATL

First of all, the ACC can’t move to 9 games. Second of all, I’d rather play Furman or some other instate team over half of the teams in the ACC. At least there’s some history with Furman and other instate schools

Agree, but Wake, Cal, BC, Stan, etc. are not much better.***

The ACC has the ND problem with 6 teams required to play them. Going to be hard to balance that. Swoffie strikes again getting on his knees and servicing ND.

This is being done to " elbow out " teams like Clemson playing perennial powerhouses ( LSU ) and with a victory upsetting the narrative.

They will have a cupcake to open the season

They will have a cupcake scheduled before their rivalry game

That leaves one open week to schedule another OOC foe

My guess is they will create something similar to the ACC / BIG basketball challenge.

The SEC / B1G FOOTBALL SHOWCASE ( or some **** ) likely scheduling attractive SEC/ B1G games played on the same weekend. Just a guess

Kiss the 4 future games with UGA goodbye. Interesting UGA has Clemson, Ohio State and GT scheduled in 2030.

If the ACC follows suit we will have 9 ACC games, ND and SC leaving only room for 1 more opponent (Probably an instate FCS team). Schedule is going to be super boring and repetitive with that many ACC opponents and ND.

Agreed. The OOC games bring a lot of excitement for me and add anticipation for the season. Adding a 9th conference game does not help us at all. Oh yippee...we will have, let's see, Wake Forest, Stanford, Cal, Virginia, Duke, Syracuse, or Boston College now, instead of LSU, UGA, or Oklahoma...yay, what an exciting schedule.

I can't wait to get out of the ACC.

Oh boy, we will get to play Wake or UVA instead of LSU or UGA.
On the bright side, tickets for UVA will be selling for $50 max instead of $500 for LSU.

This is not good news for us. We need 2 SEC games on our schedule each year or it becomes really weak really fast🤷‍♂️

Agreed

With the playoff format we have now it’s not as devastating as it could have been. If we were still in the BCS or 4 team playoff, we’d have to go undefeated to even have a chance to be in the postseason bc our schedule would be viewed as being so weak.

Gee, I've been reading on here the ACC has as many quality teams as the SEC. Maybe not?

If the SEC and B1G are so committed to becoming NFL-lite, why don't they just become official minor leagues for the NFL and get affiliations with NFL clubs?
