He put up huge numbers
Dec 1, 2021, 9:44 AM

70 tackles, 17.5 TFLs, 11.5 sacks.
I'm not sure how many snaps he got compared to our best guys, but i think our 1st team defense played A LOT of snaps this year due to many close games so i doubt there was much difference.

No knock on James but a little perspective please. For Keith Adams: As a sophomore in 1999, he was named a starter at outside linebacker. He registered 186 tackles (led the nation and set school record), 35 tackles for loss (led the nation and set school record) and 16 sacks (second in the nation and set school record). He set a school record with 27 tackles against the University of South Carolina. Those are huge numbers. Love the fire that Skalski brings but I have not seen him get off an O line block in 6 years. Simply stated, the termite could not be blocked and hence the 186 tackles.

I ask the same, but I have learned that since little ole Clemson has been at the top of college FB as of late, I question the biases of voters bc of what little ole has been able to accomplish these past 7-8 years that most in the sports world try to over look, bc little ole Clemson has been at the top of college FB for an extended time....

Love Skalski, but I'm not certain he was even the best

defender on our team this year. Booth? Murphy?
They're all studs though. And next year Trenton Simpson might be our best defender. He's a major disruptor at LB.

Say what you will...when he was out due to targeting calls the last couple of years, our defense suffered.

Truth is, if the voters knew that they would drop dead if they weren't totally non bias with their vote, James Skalski would have been the clear winner IMO, and that is my most honest opinion. Pound for pound, tall or short, James Skalski is one of the best College line backers that I remember in quite a while, and when I say this, I'm also speaking of Skalski's intelligent's and FB IQ!!!

allinallorangeallthetime52®, you make an excellent point.
It's interesting that most sports writers are so stupid (thank goodness the TNet staff is smart).
QB on the offense ... gets HUGE favorable bias (that's a major reason why Syracuse's Sean Tucker got a zero in the vote count).
QB on the defense (which is either LB or Safety) gets ZERO recognition for those rare players who know where everyone should be, and when. Those brainy, experienced LBs and Safety's ... if they are studs on the field (like Skalski) should get special considerations for MVPs / Players of the Year / etc. because more than any other players on the D, they make everyone around them better.
Jermaine Johnson is a no doubt super stud, but he does his own thing and for too many occasions this year the FL State defense didn't know what they were doing. J.Johnson didn't fix that.
But again, the sports writers in America are, for the most part, morons.
Go Tigers and Go Skalski!!!

Can't be right. Tnet said he sucks, as well as Turner and T Venables.

All good kids and hard workers. I don't know who said they "suck". That's demeaning. To say that they are not the most athletically gifted players on the team is more accurate. None will ever sniff the NFL although we have multiple players at LB that will eventually be drafted.

Sean Tucker couldn’t get one vote for offensive player of the year? Syracuse doesn’t have any beat writers who vote for this thing? Dude was 4th in the nation in rushing for a dumpster fire team where everyone was keying on him. He went for 157 yards against the best defense in the league; Clemson.

So.......... A QB gets the big accolades for running the offense, gets hus numbers off of what the other players help produce. However, the defense gets the rewards for individual performance.........

So James is the second most valuable defender in the ACC. What round would he project for in the draft?

Jermaine Johnson is a first round pick, but Skalski is a free agent more than likely.

The leader of the Clemson defense that finished 9th in Total Defense and 2nd in Points Allowed vs 3 of the top 6, 4 of top 33, 5 of top 40 scoring offenses and 2 top 10, 4 top 30 total offenses.
