He’d be draft eligible as a sophomore so maybe he stays and then goes in the 1st in ‘24 with a bonus nearly double that of what Texas offers

I'm willing to bet he stays at Clemson, being told you're a Top 15 overall Prospect, but end up in the 4th rd.....Take a do-over and come to Clemson first.

No way he signs for slot money
That said... Kumar Rocker is supposedly willing to sign for significantly under slot money. If that happens, then could see the Rangers throw 7 figures at Porter easily.
Rocker's slot is about $7.5 million - he was 10th pick last year and failed physical, so he didn't get ~$5 million slot deal then. Have to think he's willing to sign for around $5-6.25 million. That gives the Rangers an extra $1.25-2.5 million to throw at Porter and others. W
ould have to think Porter would require at least $2.5-3 million to sign (bottom of 1st round slot value). Not sure if the Rangers can make that work, but they didn't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick - so you have to assume they aren't planning on saving Kumar's extra PLUS Porter's slot to spend on rounds 5+. Will be interesting.
As both a Rangers fan and a Clemson fan - I hope he ends up at Clemson next year and then the Rangers draft him again in 2-3 years.

Kumar's slot value was $7.59mm and Porter's was $560k. Kumar did not share full medicals and understands that he will be signing under slot value because of that. Even if he only takes $5mm, there is about $3mm left over for Brock.
I don't know how the exact numbers will shake out, but I doubt the Rangers selected Porter without a tentative deal already in place with both of them. Hope I'm wrong because I'd love to watch Porter in a Clemson uniform.

Per Levi Weaver (the Rangers beat reporter for The Athletic), Porter's offer will be in the $3.7 million range. If this is true, he gone!

But that means they'd have to get Rocker in that same range. Not impossible, but I would think that Rocker is hoping for $5 mil at least given his slot is $7.5mil. Will be interesting to see if the Rangers can pull off both. Their total available for all pick is $9.6 million. So if they spend $9 million on Rocker and Porter, then they'll only have $600k for rounds 5-10 when slot value of those rounds is about $1.6 mil total. They'd almost assuredly have to lose out on their Round 5 and/or Round 6 picks unless they get Rocker to go down to about $4 million.

Kumar reportedly agreed to $5.2 million. If the report about $3.7 million for Porter from The Athletic is true, then you are correct that that they'd only have $600-700k left.
Perhaps the Rangers are just going all in one 2 guys they think are close-to-sure-things rather than spreading it out. No clue. MLB Draft is the wild west.

Rocker has been in a pretty crazy situation over the last year. He produced great numbers since the last draft, had zero setbacks and multiple doctors have given him reports of a clean bill of health. I think he's gonna get atleast 6.5-7mil. Great pitcher that deserves the money imo. I'm anxious to see if they lowball him around 5mil or pay up. I'd want my top pick feeling validated and confident not jaded. I really don't see Texas offering 8x the slot value for a prospect that fell to the 4th rd either. Hopefully Rocker gets paid and we can get Porter in a Clemson uniform asap. Go Tigers!!!
