I'm no expert on rookie contracts but since they are usually 4 years and NOT fully guaranteed, except mainly for R1 guys, by the time they get to that 5th year (the big money year) the owners just nab another player that's "almost as good" in the draft or in FA.

Getting drafted is an amazing achievement by itself but you must be a truly exceptional player to make it to and past this 4 and 5 year window, where the really big $$ is made.
