Dabo needs tom play Davidson out of the gate, he is by far the most talented back we have and more like Etienne. We will need him to carry the ball often and early to give us a true homerun threat again at running back. We have lacked that ever since Etienne left! We cant afford to wait 4 games into the season to get him the ball. Freshman or not, he is light years better than the other backs .

He still needs work in pass protection...but I agree, they need to include him in the game plan against LSU.

That was going to be my question.. how is his pass blocking? Often a knock on young RBs.

I see he early enrolled last December so maybe hes had time to learn his assignments.

Sounds like he is an absolute stud with the ball in his hands and this might be the only peice holding him back.

Bring in Davidson and Randall as either can run, but you have that Debo Samuel hybrid type back in Randall. Would be a nightmare for opposing team game planning against it.! They did a little of that against Texas but Mafah was a no show at RB due to injury.

Couldn't agree more... Wesco and Moore watching the UGA game from the sidelines last year was tough.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Absolutely, let the talented Freshmen play unlike the Gawa game last year.

agree kind of like watching Sammy Brown sit out the 4th quarter against the #####??? our coaches flat out failed at roster management last year. How could you have Wesco and Bryant not playing against UGA ?

what???? there is zero excuse for Brown not playing, he had played well all game up until they took him out. Anyone with half a brain knows it was criminal to have him out of the game. You must be kidding right? There is no defending this epic coaching fail!!!

Yeah...I agree with you there. I'm more optimistic about Randall than most, so I'd actually like to see him get some touches. As someone else said, I think he could be a really nice piece as that Deebo Samuel type hybrid back. And I'd also like to see Eziomume get some opportunities. But don't get me wrong, I definitely want Davidson to get his share of the snaps because he might end up just being on a different level.

I have some sympathy for the coaches not starting Moore and Wesco in the Georgia game because it's game 1. Throwing a true freshman out there in a game like that is tough. But the miscues by Randall and Turner in that game were frustrating, and I wish they'd made the substitution earlier.

But yeah, keeping Sammy off the field against SC in the 4th quarter was inexplicable. As I recall, either Dabo or Wes gave an answer along the lines of: "We wanted more speed," which is dumbfounding given that Sammy is actually one of the fastest players on the team. He's not your typical linebacker; he's actually got better track times than most of the wide receivers.

Not true. Dabo explained the reasoning...

Sammy Brown needed to know where he needed to be in the scheme before he could be depended upon to play a lot. UGA game he just didn’t have the recognition skills to be an asset instead of a liability.

He made great use of the several post-UGA game to acquire the recognition skills to be very good. By season end, he had arrived.

Stay healthy this year, Mr. Brown! We’re ready for the show.

I’m looking forward to seeing him in a real game situation with a very good and experienced offensive line.

Normally coaches seem to somewhat defer to the players on the roster with actual game experience, especially in a big first game, but the reality is that we dont have a RB on the roster thats ever done much of anything at the collegiate level so that isn't going to be an issue.

Jay Haynes (if indeed he’s 100% healed from his ACL injury [which I doubt]) and Adam Randall will be better pass protectors than Davidson, or Eze, or the others.

CK2’s health is the single most important ‘must have’ aspect of our team’s potential performance. He’s simply too valuable to risk being creamed by a blitz where a RB whiffed on a block / missed recognizing a blocking assignment.

If / when a game is decided (one way or the other) is when I want to see Davidson and Eze get a bunch of carries.

Second half of the season, maybe Davidson and Eze will have acquired the skills to be trusted in pass protection schemes. Things might really get exciting then.

well they need to act like it because last year looked like a bunch of rookie coaches that had no idea what they were doing !!!Getting shut down by UGA while your best receivers sit and losing again to the ##### while your best tackler watches is not a sign of a coach that knows what he is doing.

For all those pulling for the feel-good story of Adam Randall who could not help the team at WR and has moved to the RB room, I hope Randall can contribute as well. But I believe the 10 years of RB experience at an elite level separates Gideon Davidson from the rest of the Clemson backfield and means more than 2-3 years on the team. Elite RB's shine early when given the opportunity both in college and the NFL.

Remember Braelyn Allen, RB at Wisconsin of recent times? Big hoss of a RB who was pretty fast and racked up huge yards. He got injured before graduation and I haven’t kept track of him in the NFL (if even he healed well enough to make a team).

B.Allen was recruited as a LB. Got moved to RB before start of his FR season. Tremendous move.

Remember the current GA Tech RB stud (small guy) who was their star RB last year? He had been a so-so WR until Brent Key moved him to RB. I think his name is Jamal Hanes (maybe it’s Haynes).

I’m just saying that RBs sometimes don’t emerge as star RBs until some circumstance arises that makes someone think to give the guy a shot at toting the rock.

As for Adam Randall, IMO the perfect role for him is a H-back position. He’d be a H-back with the rare skill of being a threat to run the ball (we know he has excellent hands for pass catching purposes, and we’ve seen his excellent blocking on the perimeter when he was at WR).

A.Randall would be a genuine run-the-ball threat on a H-back in motion play. Pop pass to him while he motions from left side to right side, and either take it wide or cut it inside and follow the O-Line blocking. An actual running threat at H-back would only amplify the threat from the ‘RB-only’ back.

A.Randall can (and should) play a lot of snaps while the ‘full time’ RB is also in the game.
