If you put a lot of thought into what you hear coming out of Spring practice, you're going to feel by the time they actually play their first game that you had been lied to!!! There is 6 full months before our team lines up against another team that's not against our own guys, and it want look nothing like what you read about during the spring.

I don't know about anybody else, but this will be a very talented team heading into September, and unless I'm totally wrong about the talent on this team, we will be please and surprised at what we see of this team by the end of September after they have Jelled as a complete Team....

Totally agree that we don’t need to put any stock into what’s being said durning spring. The only concern I have is injuries. Since the 2020 season we seem to have the injury bug. We were very fortunate during our run between 2015 and 2020 to not have too many injuries.

I had high hopes for Stellato. I really hope he gets the train back on the tracks. Kelley, Hanafin, and Brown can’t get here quick enough.

Most of the negativity that we hear this time of year is bc of the injuries, and the players that having or have had surgery for the purpose of getting themselves back into top playing condition.

The time to worry about what's going on with our team, is when they take the field and what we see is very disappointing and sad.

With all the talent that we have, I truly don't believe that any of us will be disappointed or sad by what we see, and if we are, some lockers in the coaching staff locker rooms needs to be cleaned out bc somebody is clueless of what to do with all that talent on our Clemson Tiger FB team!!!

It's not really an injury bug, these are things from last year and being extra cautious in recovery so that they'll be ready for Summer and mainly Fall practice before the season. Once Collins and Randall are back full strength it'll make a dif.

Bingo, it means the very same as it has meant almost every spring, guys trying to get themselves back into top shape for the fall bc nothing they do in the spring will mean nothing until the start of the season in the fall.

Crump and B must be getting a lot of new members bc I don't remember as many T-Netters being so concerned about what's happening in the spring bc it has been about the same every year, with more or less talk about the injuries depending on hard the season actually was on the players.

We had a few springs back with DW4, and Trevor where the team was in better shape physically for the season, and we would have a lot less talk about the injuries during the spring.

Maybe it's that time again to talk about firing Joey Batson with the hopes that he really pushes the guys in the off season to get stronger, and in better shape for the season ahead. It does seem that about every 3-4 years, we start having a lot of players needing surgery at the end of a season, or the off season, and it has been a proven fact that FB players can a season with a lot less injuries when they are in top physical condition!!! ;)

Mar 22, 2023, 4:25 PM [ in reply to Passing game will be a concern since we can’t ]

We have good and even great receivers who are looking forward to the opportunity to get more balls in their catch radius. That's first and foremost.

Maybe you noticed WRs looked exponentially better when they had a QB who could get them the ball?

The news on the OL is not encouraging. On the other hand, they are going against some of the most talented DL in the country.

Hopefully WR is better once we get all the injured guys back and maybe 1 of the new guys can provide some additional help.

Mar 21, 2023, 12:34 PM

I'm hoping to get good things from the true freshman WRs Noble Johnson and Ronan Hanafin coming in bc we did sign two highly recruited WRs in the 2023 signing class. Then there is the 3d with Tyler Brown if he proves to be what they thought they were getting, he could fit in the slot.

Since Sammy Watkins and Tee Higgins, I've learned to never say never with freshman WRs, and I'm hoping we hit the mark with the 3 that we brought in. With those 3 plus what we'll have coming back from injury or bumps and bruises, we should have more than enough at the WR position for Cade to throw to if all stays healthy, Go Tiger, air it out!!!

Didn't we say that last year about the OL? "Yeah, they're apparently getting dominated, but we'll have the best front 7 in CFB! They'll dominate all OLs." Then our defensive line was kind of mediocre and our offensive line was horrible. It concerns me because we definitely don't have the raw talent we had last year on the defensive line but apparently are still getting dominated. Hopefully they'll improve and this is just Spring jitters, but I'm not as confident as you.

Mar 21, 2023, 12:47 PM [ in reply to Oline is gonna be a weakness, AGAIN ]

I'm not thinking that way, I'm hoping with a year more experience, that our O line will jell, and give Cade a little more time, but if that doesn't happen, Cade has quick enough feet that he can buy himself some more time, and that kid is still pretty accurate even on the run.

Depending on how long Garrett stays at Clemson before landing a HC job, I'm praying that he is at Clemson long enough to teach his system and how to call a game to someone that's there right now bc it's not often that we will see Dabo hire from the outside, and we know that's a fact bc, I believe that Venables and Garrett are the only two coordinators he has hired that didn't have prior Clemson connections, other than a couple of position coaches he hired within his first few years as our HC....

Sounds pretty familiar honestly. Defense will be very talented, but they were talented last year and didn't perform to that talent level on the field. If we are going to make the playoffs we will need a top 10 defense since the offense is still a big question mark right now.

Re: TNET: What we've learned through the first half of Clemson spring practice

1

Mar 21, 2023, 9:04 AM

Yup. Sounds like more of the same: perennial weaknesses OL and Special Teams will be poor AGAIN, but D will be strong. But will strength and depth on D translate to on-field success? Will OL give Cade time to “Air Raid” opposing teams? Would like to see some leadership on Offense other than from CK. We need some dudes to step up, especially along the OL. Anxious to see if we can get some of our WR back from injury before fall camp too. They will need all the practice reps they can get before opening day. Would be a bonus if one or more of the new guys can contribute immediately too. Wish we had some consistency at K and P too. Potter was clutch for so many years; hopefully they find a combo that works consistently. If not, it will be a very anxious, adventurous (and not in a good way) season if every kick is nothing more than a crapshoot. But hoping for the best! Gotta believe Dabo will turn it around, and that Riley knows what he’s doing. They’ll fix it. Excited for another season! Go Tigers!

Hand wringing this point is pretty silly. All we heard last spring was improvements had been made and new guys were repping. I'll reserve my thoughts until they all get healthy.

Re: Why do we seem like the only team with 50% injuries?***

Mar 28, 2023, 12:18 PM

S&C definitely plays a role in it. I don't know if Batson lost a bunch of staff that aren't as good as the good guys, but I feel like we're far more injury prone and also aren't as strong and nasty as we were 5 years ago. S&C is one of the most important coaching positions. Look at UGA. They were very injury prone, but they poached Bama's guy and that was their big turning point.

Mar 21, 2023, 12:58 PM [ in reply to The O'line has to get healthy. ]

Exactly, you can never tell how the cake will taste until you take it out the oven and allow it to sit a minute. And our talent is in the oven, or it's sitting out for a minute. We'll know what we have after it's been served, and there is no need to worry about it before then, it's just a waste of time worrying about it before it has been served. We will know exactly what we have after September 23d!!!

Way too much talk about the offense because our defense has to improve from last year. The other worry is replacing one of the best kickers we have ever had.

OL doesn’t really concern me. That unit will be a lot better when Parks and Tate get back. McFadden’s replacement is big, but I think we have 3-4 guys that can step up. As long as the 4 returners get better, we’ll be just fine.

WR worries me, but I know Riley will be able to utilize their skill sets more effectively than Streeter. And Cade is so much more accurate than DJ.

Re: TNET: What we've learned through the first half of Clemson spring practice

Mar 21, 2023, 11:19 AM

We are talking about Spring Practice guys over half of these first 7 practices have been in only helmets then shells so hard to make any type of generalizations out of any of this. All the injuries being talked about are old injuries very few new injuries so not sure all the whining about that. Offensive line is the HARDEST coaching job. Clemson has the talent, I mean it's full of top 200 talent. Spring you want to rep everyone and move everyone around so they aren't going to look great a lot early. Also Dabo personally helps to coach the WRs it's not just Grisham. Grisham learned the same way and the same things Jeff Scott did, both under Dabo. I understand some fans are just negative people, when nothing is wrong you don't see them but as soon as something they don't like happens their little fingers are burning their phone screens or keyboards up. Until the season kicks off we'll know very little about this team. You definitely can't go by what coaches say bc we don't have their perspectives. As far as the "people who know" source you should always take with a grain of salt. Basically you're a moron if you are equating anything that happens this Spring with the upcoming season. Unfortunately there's a lot of morons everywhere.

We sitting in here and we in here talking about spring practice. I mean, listen: We talking about spring practice. Not a game. Not a game. Not a game. We talking about spring practice. Not a game. Not the game that our players go out there and die for and play every game like it's their last. Not the game. We talking about spring practice, man.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: What we've learned through the first half of Clemson spring practice

Mar 21, 2023, 1:36 PM

I agree that we probably shouldn't assume too much about how the season will go this early. However, my takeaway, in general, is that our defense has a chance to be very good if we get marked improvement out of our secondary. My concern is on offense, both from a WR and OL perspective, and with Cade really getting his first year to take the reins. I expect us to be a bit inconsistent on offense and I am concerned about how ready we will be for the FSU game by week 4.

I am coming into the season thinking we are probably a year away from being our very best. Finishing in the top 4 would be a blessing but a significant challenge as well.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is proof that we should have went after a WR in the portal.

Mar 21, 2023, 3:50 PM

Flame away, and say we don’t have the scholarship numbers but it’s clear as day that we needed to pursue a WR.

Numbers have a way of working themselves out. Yes, we may have a ton of young potential but it sure would be nice to have someone out there building chemistry with Cade.
