Appreciate Austin's leadership in recruiting and starter evaluations in 2022 pre-season. Bockhorst was a minus at center last year as was Putnam at RG. Hopefully, the fits are better in 2022. Austin seems to have a strong handle on o-line personnel and practice routines.
I still cannot comprehend why Putnam was not moved to Center in 2021 with Mayes at RG as Austin has set up in 2022. Seems like Bockhorst's likability and seniority swayed last year's coaching decision makers. Optimistic that Austin's efforts and an improved OL rotation will be a difference maker in 2022.

If you are going to move someone's position at the last minute, it makes 100% sense to move your most experienced guy if you can. Between Bockhorst and Putnam that was Bockhorst. Assuming our coaches are at least halfway professional at their jobs, "likeability" should have nothing do with it. The real question is how much snapping did they have Bockhorst do prior to being tossed into the center job at the beginning of fall camp? If none? Why not?
Putnam was hurt the majority of last year. Injury was more serious than communicated even above and beyond missing games. He wasn't even 100% during this spring. After having some mechanic work done, his mobility should be much improved this fall. Also he's at least had some time to practice at center before fall. So that alone is an improvement over last year.
Lots of reasons to be optimistic about the OL, however will have a LG playing next to a Center that they didn't play next to last year. And vice versa with the Center and LG. Center and RG? Nope not them either. RG and RT? No again. And any way you slice it the RG will be "newer" to the role. Bank on missed assignments during the first half of the season...either on runs or during pass pro when handing off DL to pick up twists etc. When this happens no-one should be all that surprised.

Tristan Leigh was listed as second team LT in the Spring with Blake Miller second at RT. Maybe Coach Austin was just mentioning the fact that Blake Miller has shown versatility. Just seems like we have a ton of guys who have the talent and potential, and the coaches have to bring it out in practice and game day.

There are guys that do more during the off season to get snaps than others. A lot of times when you have guys that played all season, they feel they don't need to work hard during the off season to do what they had done the past season. Then you have guys they were alternating time, that will work their butts off in the off season to get the most of the snaps. It about attitude and how much a player wants to be that guy when the season starts, and coaches know about those guys, and he rewards them. There are some that are always late when a group plans a workout, and there are those that are always early bc they want more. The players that work out the most, and works out the hardest, they're the one that most of the time will pass the guy that was ahead of them. Plain and simple, you get back what you put into it....

In all seriousness though, we are due for a season of low injury impact after last year. Last season was just brutal.

We ain't been healthy for a long time. It's been 2 years of just a ridiculous amount of injuries on the team.

When talking about staying as healthy as a player can expect to be during a season. And from what Nick Eason told his guys of how NFL players stayed as healthy as possible during a season, and what those guys done with helping their muscles heal during the week. I hope they do it just as Nick instructed, and I hope that he passed all his inside tricks of the trade down to the offensive coaches, and players bc, it did seem like we had guys on both sides of the ball that wasn't able to practice or play in games bc of injured muscles after every practice, and every game.
With our team last season, they were plagued daily with muscle injuries, and they were dropping with injuries cause by muscles, or joints that wasn't healing quick enough to get them back up to half speed by the next game time, and that only means that guys just wasn't doing what needed to be done to get them back in minimal time. Last season injury bug was taking our players out the game for long periods, and it was worst than I've seen or heard about in a long time at Clemson.
