Streeter says Phommachanh brings talent and character to Tigers
Taisun Phommachanh is at Clemson for a reason and will get his chance to earn a starting spot. With the departure of backup quarterback Chase Brice, Phommachanh will enter spring practice in the No. 2 spot behind starter Trevor Lawrence and ahead of freshman D.J. Uiagalelei. Sitting in between two 5-stars that are considered the presen Full Story » |

Very impressed with what I saw of him. Hope he has the patience to play behind Trevor and gets a good number of reps this year while doing so.

All I've seen of him are from the Spring and high school clips, but he looks pretty impressive. He looks like he has a strong arm and you have to like his attitude and work ethic. I hope he sticks around and competes.

I want the very best QB or any other player we have that is the best player in his position to start and play. I never have been a fan of who ever has been there longer and deserves his chance bc the best player should be the starter, and it wouldn't matter to me if he had only been on the team for a day. The best should play even if it's ahead of someone that has been there 10 years waiting their turn bc only the best deserves a turn. College FB is about winning, and winning is easier with your best players on the field, and that doesn't always mean the guy that's been there longer!!!

If DJ comes in and blows everyone out of the water, than I think the coaches will see this. But I don't think DJ is jumping ahead of TL in 2020. The real competition will be between Phommachanh and DJ.

It's only fair that he starts spring practice right behind Trevor.

What happens to TP if he drops back to the #3 spot after DJ gets tuned in? could he become a receiver? We have a bunch of talent on our team so I guess Dabo will have to figure that out since he makes the big bucks.

If he falls to 3 then we should be ok with him transferring if he wants a shot at playing quarterback. Why even pose the question, Should he move to receiver? It won't lack character for him to transfer but some fans will demonize him if that happens for sure.

Just like we demonized Chase Brice and Xavier Kelly right?

Worst case scenario he’s number 2 and then he backs up DJ and is only a injury away from playing. I’d stay. That’s the danger of the transfer portal. A couple of years ago we started with like 5 qbs and ended up with Renfrow as an option

Think that would happen further down the line. Before TP and DJU's "junior" year and would take another All-Timer or 2 coming in.

Typu added 25 pounds? That's encouraging.

I thought he looked pretty legit in the spring game last year - he should make for a solid #2 in 2020. IF DJ were to beat him out as back-up then it would almost seem unfair how blessed we would be with QB talent at that point.

If DJ doesn't beat him out for #2 there will be some heavy competition for #1 in the spring of 21 if TL leaves early... he most likely will.

Barring injury, T.P. will be a healthy and excellent portal candidate with two years experience and the entire Clemson playbook in 2 years. Look for some Clemson talent to transfer to rivals over the next few years (e.g. FSU, NCSU, UNC, SC, VaT, etc.)

I posted several months ago that I have a good friend who has a son who attended the private school with TP and knows him well . Perhaps it’s just coach talk but his coach at the private school said he was definitely NFL talent. You can see that he is very athletic and he is at the right place to develop.
