Having just finished reading this, I started thinking about something Dabo said in his post-game on-field interview about being " outplayed" by the tarholes and being "outcoached" by Mack Brown, and his staff.
Then I went back to last nights Cowboy Saints game, and saw a Dallas team that was not only "outplayed' by the Saints, but "outcoached" by Sean Peyton and his staff.
I blame games like this just as much on the "coaches" as I do the 'players", perhaps even more because the players can only perform , IMO, up to the level of their preparations.
So while one of my teams was able to pull out a win on the road, the other wasn't.
And that is what irritates me more than anything. If you get beat by the better team so be it,
But when you beat yourself with stupid penalties, turnovers, misassignments, and just all around sloopy play, you got no one to blame but yourself.
Clemson got lucky because we have a Head Coach who doesn't look like a starry-eyed kid who is lost in a candy store, ala Jason Garret.
So Grade that!

I really think our linebackers are getting out ran, missing tackles and can't cover too well. Blitzing alot gets them out of having to cover long if at all, but when they have to cover they often get beat. Also I thought the O Line would be playing at a higher level right now I haven't really seen them dominate the LOS yet. But I still have faith in our coaches to get us playing better after the bye week. GO TIGERS!

I think we just may be trying to play to many wr's to quickly. I understand why we do it but hard to understand why 5,8, and 3 are on the sidelines in a tight game. I know we have plenty of talent but maybe the problem is a timing thing with TL and the receivers.

Good question and why is it that #14 overton only seem to get 1 to 2 pass attempt per game ,if any at all in some games. yet he's usually open across the middle or quick out route and has catch to drop ratio of 95% , catching 95 percent of balls thrown his way. just curious why that is

THAT'S ABSOLTELY RIGHT - the play calling was . . .

Sep 30, 2019, 9:43 AM

absolute crap. I still think after all these years the OC's are pretty sketchy play callers. Athletes often make up for that, but when things are going poorly, Elliot and Scott seem to stay the course and it just gets worse. At times Saturday I could have sworn it was Rob Spence up there calling the plays. It was dreadful.

1000% poor playcalling! I think Elliot starts over thinking what he see's and then he gets vanilla as well as predictable. I think he forgets that we have better athletes on the field 90% of the time. I made this same comment last year after a couple games I saw the same crap!

I really think Dabo is pressing this getting all the players on the field a little too much!! Starters are not getting enough playing time together. What happened to getting Tee and Ross on the edges taking advantage of their size and skills?

We are not able to run the football effectively. OL is not doing their job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It isn't just the OL. Etienne doesn't look like the same

Sep 30, 2019, 10:27 AM

guy he did the last 2 seasons. He's not nearly as explosive. I have no idea if it's mental or physical, but there is an issue and it isn't just the OL.

Yes! Spier's had a very good day and is having a SOLID season.
He has caught a lot of flack on here in the past but performed well in the playoffs(if my memory serves me) and strong all of this season! Good job Spiers...we appreciate you.

ETN avg. 4.8 ypc not 4.0 that's a big diff and Trevor 4.0

Sep 30, 2019, 9:43 AM

not 5.4 ypc. That's according to the box score. Not sure where you are pulling these #s.

Not counting the sack yardage and only rushes then TL #s go up to 5.4

For some reason our play calling just hasn't allowed us to get into a rhythm offensively, especially on 2nd down calls. It seems like a half dozen or so times we would gain 6 to 8 yards on the first play and then either get stuffed, have an incomplete pass, or penalty. Even when we didn't we often failed to pick up a 1st down.

Look, UNC is a nice story and played hard and up to the their potential - we did not and simply laid an egg - not ready to play on defense (as admitted to by the coaches) and no focus on offense - penalties, drops, fumbles, bad throws - you name it.
And yes, to date we do not look like a playoff team - I would leave us off too based on today. HOWEVER, the playoffs do not begin today so no reason to panic. We will either improve and be where we want to be in December or we won't and will be out and deserve it. This begins in two weeks - don't ever think that FSU with a HUGE revenge agenda can't come in and whip our butts if we play like we did last week.

The offense, defense, and special teams all played like C teams. An extra week will do the trick.

Re: Congratulations to North Carolina

for beating the Tigers, mentally, physically, focusing and for out coaching the tigers even though they didn't win the game. Dabo said it right after the game they were whipped in every phase. They only word that comes to mind in the Tigers performance is " lazy". There were a couple of players that were tuned in but the majority were lost and this belongs on the coaches because some of them were lost also. Pass blocking is evidently the choice of the offensive line and not run blocking. Receiver route running is not sharp and crisp. Patience on offense is not preferred. Defensive run stopping is out of whack. The art of tackling, hit, wrap and hold on because help is on the way is slipping. As far as play calling stop calling the quick out pass, this results in no more than a lost play. It's done so much it's the first thing the opposing defense looks for and gets snuffed quickly. When it's third down and a passing situation run the route, throw the ball past the down marker. This all said the Tigers are 5-0 and that's a great start so far. Did the Tigers deserve to fall in the rankings? Yes they did. They can now be the hunter again instead of the hunted. With all the talent on this team they need a killer instinct. Most importantly though they need to relax and start having fun again. Prove you are champions with coaching and play. GO TIGERS.

Interesting point about the starters not playing together much in 2 weeks. Could we be seeing a flaw in the plan to play every player on the team?
It's worked out so far, but perhaps that plan needs to be tempered down a little. Our starters have not looked comfortable for an entire game yet.

While it does seem as if the starters are not in rhythm, I firmly believe that CDS wants to get reserves game experience now in easier (in theory) games so that if needed, they have some playing time to be prepared. I have a feeling we will see a much heavier emphasis on the #1s going forward for the next few weeks. I do think our O line is lacking a mean streak, but then I seem to say that most years. Pass blocking is one thing, technique goes a long way. Run blocking is just being nasty and mean.. Just have rarely seen that. Time will tell, but I'm not worried yet, think the bye week shows a lot of improvement after the self scouting and drilling down. Go Tigers!
