Big Cinco did just good enuf to keep his starting position. Cade looked motivated and great vs. the 2nd string jackets. I am rooting for big 5 but the window is closing I on him. Go Paws!!!

Cade should have been out with the ones ...Mr concrete can't move as was shown last year... I don't care about hurting feelings or NIL deals
Cade looked good and DJ SHOULD BE backing him up........sorry if that hurts i don't care

The first half was tough to watch. We looked like the offense from last year. But 27 points in the second half is great. Let’s hope the gitters or nerves are out and this team can rally on the second half play and improve from there. Our receivers still need to learn how to catch the ball. Best throw and catch was Allen in the second half. DJ isn’t great but if the rest of the team does what they are supposed to he will look 20% better than he did tonight

Bottom line is DJ is not getting the support that Trevor did from the receivers

The difference is, Kelly Bryant didn't get the support that Trevor did, but Kelly was the starter. You have to have faith in your #1 guy, then you can proceed. No one with a straight face can say DJ is without issues. Nice shovel pass to ship though. Saved the day, or at least his ####.

Agreed. Klubnik looked better with third string than DJ did with first. I was called a clot for crying out for Lawrence to take KB’s place. We all know how that turned out. 2>5

Agreed. But DJ has had 15 starts to shake out the cobwebs. Kelly had what, 4? Time to move on. He has 2 or 3 more to help Cade along before his time has passed. Nuf sed

Exactly.

The Jaguars had even more games with Trevor Lawrence last year and his stats were literally worse than DJU's in more games in every statistical category.

Time to move on from Trevor too?

I disagree is all. Cade had 4 completions & stared down his receivers every time; sacrificing total QB depth to put him behind THAT o-line is sincerely worth discouraging, IMO. He can definitely get better, & we have that opportunity with him behind our record-breaking 5-star starting QB, make no mistake.

Comparing an NFL QB to a college QB is useless. But, if you are going to do it anyway, do it accurately. TL had more passing yards, more TDs, a better completion %, and more rushing yards...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Instant Analysis: Tigers have plenty to work on but will celebrate win over Tech

Sep 6, 2022, 10:47 AM

To be fair, the stats are what they are; more INT's to TD's, for example.

All I'm saying is Trevor was on a bad team & had worse stats but we DON'T bury him, but DJU we bury for a guy with 4 total completions? It's weird, & not worth sacrificing total QB depth.

Re: TNET: Instant Analysis: Tigers have plenty to work on but will celebrate win over Tech

Sep 6, 2022, 10:53 AM

Probably because you can watch the two QBs and see that one is a potential all-pro, national-championship winning talented stud, and the other is DJ. People aren't just complaining because of stats...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Instant Analysis: Tigers have plenty to work on but will celebrate win over Tech

Sep 6, 2022, 11:26 AM

You're right, they're not complaining because of stats; they're complaining because of a narrative & a horrendous o-line & the QB gets the blame by nature. I get it, even if I don't love it.

Y'all, I DO get it. DJU isn't playing at his talent ceiling. Shipley isn't either. Trevor didn't last year.

But we DO blame DJU in a way we don't do for others. Insisting he only stared at every receiver, for example, is misguided at best.

I am just more frustrated with our o-line & how we respond to burying our own players than I am with any of the skill positions, even the #1 WR's dropping passes in a way I simply haven't gotten used to yet.

41-10 with no interceptions, it's not worth ignoring how we got there, & the 2nd half was a different game, like Ohio State's was on Saturday.

Now we face a resurgent Furman. Still a good test to see if the o-line has improved, which will help us better judge DJ, Shipley, the receivers, et al.

Trevor went to the worst team in the NFL and had Urban Myer as a coach. Why not compare Trevor’s college numbers to DJ’s ? DJ’s numbers last year didn’t break the top 100. He has improved but if by 50%, he may break the top 50. The difference was clearly obvious. If happy with another 3-4 loss season and a lower tier bowl, leave things as they are.

Cade should have been out with the ones... except then maybe we'd be hating on Cade the same way as DJU; the ones were dropping balls left and right while Cade's 4 total completions were somehow enough to sacrifice our entire QB depth chart. I just don't get it.

Re: TNET: Instant Analysis: Tigers have plenty to work on but will celebrate win over Tech

DJ looked the same as last year. He stared down one-receiver and threw into tight coverage even though he had other receivers wide-open. His decision making was slow. He looked like he was standing in wet cement. He fumbled a high (but catchable) snap. He bobbled another one, which threw off the timing of the play. He fumbled the ball away on a run. Some good throws. Some bad ones. Not gonna beat Notre Dame or win a playoff game with that level of QB play.

Klubnik looked like the 2nd coming of DW4. Accurate, & nimble, despite having a supporting cast of 4th stringers. Limited data, but it looked like Klubnik should be the starter.

During the on-field interview after the game, Dabo had a sick look on his face and sounded like he had a lump in his throat. I suspect he was sad because he knows that he has to start Cade (and crush DJ's feelings).

Agree with most of what you said. But DJ is the starter, he should be at this point. Cade deserves to have a couple series in the first half to see.

Kinda?

Sep 6, 2022, 9:39 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Instant Analysis: Tigers have plenty to work on but will celebrate win over Tech ]

You're right that DJU stared down a receiver.

What's fascinating is somehow we didn't notice Cade stared down his receivers every time. Yeah, he only had four completions and one of them was a designed pick where he's actually supposed to stare down the receiver (& it worked).

Cade threw 4 completions, & yeah, I'm not ready to call him our salvation is all.

Dabo is fine! He's not hurt. He also re-insisted on Clemson's 5-star, record-breaking QB being the starter, for what it's worth, rather than sacrificing our QB depth (again) to put a true freshman behind the o-line the way they performed last night, particularly in the first half.

Re: Kinda?

Sep 6, 2022, 10:43 AM

Are you related to DJ? What records did he break? Worst QB rating for a season? Maybe he broke a one game record? I’m not sure. Cade will replace DJ. It will happen. Just watch. DJ is not as talented. We also have Hunter Johnson. He was brought in to provide good coaching and more depth for when DJ is replaced. Maybe DJ leaves like Kelly Bryant. Who knows. I could be wrong about all of this. Though it seems as if the writing is on the proverbial wall.

Re: Kinda?

Sep 6, 2022, 10:51 AM

He broke a bunch of records subbing in for TL against Notre Dame. Irrelevant now, though...

* Uiagalelei’s 439 passing yards were the third-most in a game in school history. His total broke the school freshman record of 435, set by Deshaun Watson against North Carolina in 2014.

* Uiagalelei’s 439 passing yards were the most ever thrown against Notre Dame by an opposing quarterback, breaking the mark of 425 held by USC’s Carson Palmer in 2002.

* Uiagalelei's 439 passing yards were the most ever for a Clemson quarterback against an AP top-5 team.

Sep 6, 2022, 11:11 AM

Ohhh, the game from two years ago. Yeah. Good game. I just keep wondering why every other team seems to have a better QB than DJ. That’s odd right? Stars don’t matter once you get to college guys. Performance does. And DJ doesn’t perform like a super star. Last night he played decent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Kinda?

Sep 6, 2022, 11:19 AM

Just like Will Shipley then I guess, know what I mean?

Like, Shipley is sincerely elite... or so we thought? It's not like he was breaking through all night long; he had 14 more rushing yards than DJU.

My whole thing is we cannot insist DJU or Shipley or any other skill player sucks alone when the 0-line is performing at such a fundamentally low level, that's all. I think Shipley is elite. DJU was rated at & HAS shown he can play at an elite-level ceiling, make no mistake.

But not even Tom Brady would thrive if this line doesn't improve; GT was bringing just four defenders & getting through all night long. It's a vastly more legitimate concern than DJU, for example.

One correction here. The near-sack play to Shipley in the 3rd quarter was a run, not a pass. Shipley’s lone reception came in the 2nd quarter.

Sep 6, 2022, 9:34 AM

Tigernet:"...it’s hard to complain about a 41-10 season-opening win over Georgia Tech."

Clemson nation: "IT'S NOT HARD TO COMPLAIN AT ALL!" ?

I know Cade only had 4 completions and stared down his receivers each time, but I still think he can be great & develop quickly this season behind our record-breaking 5-star starting QB.

The future is BRIGHT! This season is going to be a blast, & I'm having a hard time not celebrating Clemson today. Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't know what Clemson nation wants anymore

Sep 6, 2022, 10:02 AM

There’s nothing wrong with staring at your receiver when he’s wide open and then throwing him the ball. The problem with DJ is he stares at the guy, continues to stare at him while he’s covered and never goes through his progression. There’s no reason for Cade to go through a progression when the first guy he looks at is open.
And it sure is refreshing to see a quarterback move his feet and throw an accurate ball.

DJ played fine and should have graded well. He made 2 bad decisions in the game, the fumble and the one pure sack in the pocket, both first half. The bad snap you cannot blame the QB that's asinine. He secured it and saved a turnover, thus he did his job! You people begging for Cade is funny. The young man had one good drive AGAINST the backups. It proved our backups are better than there's are! It certainly does not start or settle a QB competition. The QB competition was settled in camp. Now the starting QB will have to be hurt or have serious issues to lose the job! In 2014/2018 the backup was immensely more talented than the incumbent, but this is not the case now! Slow your roll Tigers, the offense will be fine. Clean up some dropped passes and the right side of the Line, and you will see a well oiled machine. Geesh when did a 41-10 win become mediocre against a conference rival! Why are we not slamming the defense for giving up 2 drives that gave up 10 points?!?!?! We obviously have issues we gave up 10?!?! Dayyyyyyyyyuuuuuuummmm give me and this team a break it was the first game people!

Sep 6, 2022, 5:42 PM

Clemson has the longest current win streak in college football, right?

Celebrate the wins! Believe Dabo and the whole team when they say: "winning is hard; especially when you are getting everybody's best effort"!

Clemson is some of these teams Super Bowl and teams play above their usual level when they play the Tigers. So, Clemson can't afford to take a win for granted.

Enjoy it and get better! Winning is hard!
