Dabo needs our prayers right now. That's a lot to deal with.***

I’m a guy who prays, but I’ll likely use them for something besides helping a man making high 7 figures to have an easy time rehiring s coaching staff so he has a successful season playing a game.

Dabo's approach has affected...

Dec 8, 2021, 8:31 AM

...the entire football landscape in a very positive way.

There are entities, including ESPN, who appear to be anti-Christian and he has maintained his integrity against a lot of negative influence. What he is teaching his players and staff is important especially for the guys who have never had a father figure in their lives.

So I think a little prayer to support Dabo is in order.

Dec 7, 2021, 9:28 PM

Agree 100%.

He has the Alumni, President-James P. Clements, IPTAY, the Fans, and all the players behind him 100%.
He assembled the last coaching staff, and he will do it again.
After he prays about it, he will let us know his plan forward.
This is not a disaster, but a great opportunity for the Tigers to be better than ever!

Personally, I expect him to put together a better coaching staff than before. He hand picked every one that you thought was so great they could not be replaced.
I don't remember anyone on Tigernet or elsewhere, calling for Chad Morris or Brent Venables to be our OC and DC a decade ago.
I guarantee Dabo has a list, that he checks and updates often.
He is too classy to discuss moves in public, but he will announce the new staff in public!

After Two National Championships, you think he would have earned everyone's trust!!

Dabo Knows!

Go Tigers, Beat Iowa State for another 10 win season!!
I can't wait for spring football and the 2022 season!

Dabo is THE MAN! Folks start to panic when adversity strikes. When we suffered year that awful Loss in the Orange bowl he fixed it. When Morris left he fixed it and it was a lot better. This year was a nightmare with 25 scholarship players out and 2nd and 3rd string receivers we killed number 10 Wake and shut out our greatest rival. I do think Dabo needs to get busy fixing his coaches situation. I don't think he can fool around with this. Players are decomitting at warp speed. If he doesn't get in gear we could lose more recruits I think the kids dropping out are looking at the confusion in the coaching staff and don't know who they are going to be playing for. Do you blame them?

The landscape has changed so dramatically that what fixed things in the past won’t work now. New solutions have to be found. I wish it wasn’t true but hard work and integrity aren’t going to be enough.

Well I hate to say it you can call it the portal or whatever but it’s happening and we are the last team to accept anybody from portal. Most of the big teams that were successful this year accepted transfers through the portal now Dabo has got some of our top players leaving in the portal. We have to go with the times… I hope Dabo has a plan because we’re in a hell of a mess!

The only hope we have is to try and keep Clemson integrity but join the times… these kids play for money and fame and most don’t care where that happens… it’s sad but true … either we stay family small or get in the business game… it’s sad but true !

Coneros said it's NOT ENOUGH anymore. That is, keep the hard work & integrity AND adopt the portal, NIL, etc.

I don't understand how any native English speaker could read Coneros' comment and think it meant that Dabo should scrap hard work & integrity.

Dec 21, 2015, 2:53 PM

Macodi replied to Coneross: "So hard work, commitment, all in, family, goals, etc are out the window?? What is it, just transfer portal and NIL that makes a team great now? Hogwash."

But Coneross said no such thing, so I pointed out Macodi's false interpretation of Coneross' post.

Then, for some reason (I guess because you weren't following along) you also seem to have drawn a similarly illogical interpretation of what I wrote.

Yes, I'm a native English speaker and a Clemson grad. Are you a Clemson grad?

WRT your claim... I disagree that hard work & integrity are ALWAYS enough. Those things are essential, but you need to work SMART, not just hard. You can work hard digging a hole with a spoon but I'll outperform you if I work smarter by working hard with a shovel. I interpreted Coneross' post to mean Dabo has to work hard AND smart.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Read the thread and try to follow along.

Dec 8, 2021, 8:21 AM

I think your interpretation is right on target on this. To be almost certain, we will have to make some adjustments in how we handle transfers and the portal, and I am pretty sure Dabo will figure out the best path to do that while adhering to high standards of excellence in character and on the field performance by our players and our coaching staff. This will be an interesting ride, for sure.

I understand with what you are saying and agree some. I do believe the transfer portal is something we may have to utilize, especially if we see more players decommitting or leaving. Anyways, I have faith in Dabo, however, the landscape is changing and like everything else we have to roll with the punches.

Re: TNET: "I'll get it fixed": Swinney's history suggests he will make the right moves

Dec 8, 2021, 3:57 PM

I agree that Clemson FB will have to use the portal for advantages that can make Clemson FB better, but I don't agree that if we lose a WR, Dabo should go to the portal and grab another WR. He should look to see if there is a WR in the portal that fits what we do at Clemson, and if they are talented enough to be coached up to be a player that can meet the standards of being a top 1st, 2nd, and maybe a 3 team player.

There is no need wasting time with a portal player that just needs a scholarship and a place to call home. We need players from the portal that can, and will work their way to be a 2nd or 1st teamer depending on how much time they have left with eligibility. A 3d teamer talent coming in with only 1 or 2 seasons of eligibility left to play, they would be a gross waste of time for coaches to even bother with.

A player coming in with 3d team talent, and with the limited amount of time that coaches have to work with that talent level of players is very limited, and 3d teamer talent would need to come in as a true freshman to have the time needed to become a 2nd or 1st team player... Third team talent coming in with only 2 years of eligibility left, is like a walk on coming in as a true freshman, and most of them only end up seeing the field in clean up duty. A portal player coming into Clemson with only 2 years of eligibility, they must have the talent to work their way to 2nd or 1st team players by mid season of the first season at Clemson with only 2 years of eligibility, or they will be a complete waste of time, and that's plain simple facts!!!

We have had 4 star players that hit the portal bc they couldn't make the 1st team after a couple of years, and some of them were only solid 3d team players, and that's why some of them have to settle with playing at schools that's not some of the top power 5 schools!!!

I love everything you do Hood and your work is my vice but the subject line of these articles is displayed and shared across all platforms. Most lazy perusers just read the article title and keep it moving, if it’s not overly enticing.

That being said, the title eludes to something being broken. I don’t believe it is and I’m sure you do not either. I just hate the thought of it planting a negative subliminal seed in the heads of recruits, who are so impressionable.

I am probably being overly sensitive just because of recent events but I just thought I would share what I was thinking.

Love you and not sure what I would do without your consistent and accurate information!

Probably would be running the streets getting into trouble…

The program is in a place it has never been. Dabo is the architect of that.

The tweet posted by DJ’s dad says volumes. We are fortunate.

Of all the Daboism’s, ‘the fun is in the winning’ is my favorite. Be nice to have that continue or watch the team build back to it.

Just read an Oklahoma update. Brent coming after Coach Reed. Perhaps Bresee and other 22 recruits too. He just made an offer to 22 DT in Florida. Didn't give the name. Curious if we offered too.

While I have and will continue to pray for CDS and the rest of the family that's here, all bets are off. We need to do everything we can. CFB is the old wild wild west. Nobody's your friend on the opposing sideline.

I hate using the word war but lack of a better word, we're in a football battle. I don't want to become the next LSU, or Florida, or FSU. But Dabo has also stated it ain't far from the penthouse to the outhouse. No, not being a pessimists, or Debbie downer, the sky's not falling, but it can.

No more Mr nice guy Dabo. The gloves are off for all of us. aTm now has the number 1 class rank (per player close to 95) . we're down to 9th now? A few weeks ago we were 3... I think. Are we sending offers to kids committed to other schools. Tell us what we need to do Dabo. Don't worry about the money Dabo, we'll get you whatever you need. If it takes 3mil to get Hobby as DC or Bama DC, do it. We got your back!

It was the Oklahoma wire. Mainly talking about recruits he needed to retain and how players get committed to playing for coaches. Talked about the possible flip of kanak. And the potential for raiding Clemson 22 recruits just like Riley did. They mentioned coaches from Clemson, Reed being one because how close they are. So it wasn't a blogger. It's the OU beat writers. But you missed the whole gist of my post.

Dec 7, 2021, 5:23 PM

Morris & Venables were great coordinator hires. Steele, Napier, and Elliott, not so much. I hope he makes a couple more great hires (like Saban always seems to do) and keeps the natties coming. I'm hopeful but not as confident as others here who seem to think it's a sure thing.

Re: Now we'll see if Dabo is a Saban-level master or kinda lucky

Dec 7, 2021, 6:25 PM [ in reply to Now we'll see if Dabo is a Saban-level master or kinda lucky ]

I have to laugh at the "kinda lucky" comment. CU's been playing ball about a hundred years. Until Dabo arrived CU had won a total of ONE national championship.

That BV left to take one of the premier jobs in all college sports is a long term positive for our program. BV has been the first to tell you that without Dabo and CU there would be no possible OU job. As Dabo's coaching tree grows so does the prestige and desirability of CU's program.

I would also recommend that a bit of research be done concerning SAT scores pre Dabo, and current acceptance numbers.

Now I have to scratch my head at Penn State signing their fine coach for a top amount. And also Michigan State for much the same thing following their head coach having one full season at the helm. I do recall when Dabo sacrificed part of his salary during the early years to bring in CM and BV.

We have recently witnessed many a top head coach lose their job, seek new opportunities elsewhere, turn to broadcasting, and other endeavors. NIL and the Portal are the latest shiny objects. We have seen many a storied program fall from the heights (Nebraska, Tennessee, Miami, FSU, Texas, LSU, FLORIDA, SOCAL).

It's hard to win one football game. The other guys are trying just as hard and also have loads of player and coaching talent. It ain't "kinda lucky" to have ten win seasons year after year. CU has always put substantial resources into our football program. Go back and look at historical W-L records for CU. Then think about our recent program being "kinda lucky."

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All good points…

Dec 7, 2021, 6:54 PM

except for one glaring error. Being a rookie, we can excuse you THIS TIME. There is no “SOCAL”, that is USC. There is another school that wants to be USC but they are properly referred to as “SCar” in polite company and USUC most other times.

Re: Now we'll see if Dabo is a Saban-level master or kinda lucky

Dec 7, 2021, 7:37 PM [ in reply to Re: Now we'll see if Dabo is a Saban-level master or kinda lucky ]

Dabo's initial coordinator hires didn't work out well. IIRC, Clemson went 6-7 under Dabo and took record-setting beatdowns in Death Valley (to FSU) and in the Orange Bowl (to WVU). He really got things rolling with the hire of Morris and Venables. Undoubtedly those hires were well-informed gambles, but also a bit lucky. Steele and Napier were also well-informed gambles but not so lucky. Saban's gambles on coordinators seem to pay off far too often to be lucky, IMHO. It'll be interesting to see if Dabo can continue to make great hires. (IMHO, Elliott is upper-mediocre, but not a Venables-caliber superstar.)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Now we'll see if Dabo is a Saban-level master or kinda lucky

Dec 7, 2021, 9:48 PM

Saban also has 20+ years of experience on Dabo. Go look at his first 10 years and come back to me. You seem like a gratification now kind of person instead of realistic. Saban also processes players; we do not, right or wrong. Napier also was not a bad hire at OC. He was 30 years old and tried to make chicken salad out chicken ****! Hard to do with zero, cohesive, offensive talent. Some folks have selective memories....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Now we'll see if Dabo is a Saban-level master or kinda lucky

Dec 8, 2021, 1:50 AM

"Saban also has 20+ years of experience on Dabo. Go look at his first 10 years and come back to me"
That's irrelevant to my point, but I'll play along... Saban won his first natty in his 10th year of head coaching. Dabo in his 9th year. Pretty similar. Saban won 6 more natties in the next 15 years, frequently, and consistently (AFAIK) hiring great coordinators after they leave to be head coaches. We're about to find out how Dabo does. (That was my point, which you seem to have completely missed.)

"Saban also processes players; we do not, right or wrong."
I think it's wrong. And Saban does some other unscrupulous stuff. But that's also completely irrelevant to my point about hiring great coordinators.

"Napier also was not a bad hire at OC."
Dabo and I disagree. That's why Dabo fired Napier, right? Fortunately Dabo made a great hire with Morris. Similarly, Dabo hired & fired Steele and then made a great hire with Venables.

"You seem like a gratification now kind of person instead of realistic."
What did I write that makes you think that?!?! BTW: You seem like a person who goes off on irrelevant tangents.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am 110% convinced if anyone can fix the problem Dabo will.

I am sure our coach is MORE upset about this past year for the same reason
fans are. We have a great chance of having another 10 win season.
We beat the Gamecocks. 30-0 Am I going to give up on a coach like
that....NEVER... Go back with me between 73-77...”The Red Parker” years..
Best season Clemson had while I was a student was 7-4. We lost 2 and won 2
against the COOTS. ALL THE FANS should be backing this man by singing
his praises and thanking him for what he has done for Clemson football..
Everybody knew we were not going to keep VB forever. Dabo is our coach...
Look for this man to do what it takes to make our program ELITE with an

Don't care if the new DC is nationally known or not...as long as he is good!! Lots of great young DCs out there who just need a bigger stage to prove it. The only advantage in the big name is recruiting...but that comes with success.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One of the things that Dabo really had "fixed since then was

Dec 7, 2021, 7:09 PM

having his teams be extremely well disciplined from a penalty standpoint. The fact that we regressed in that area this year was a HUGE factor in costing us during those 3 losses. False starts on offense, and equivalently bad critical Offsides penalties on defense ruined us.

Our beyond anemic offense could not afford to back up five yards on ANY possessions, but we did, repeatedly, game after game due to false starts. And holding penalties. Galore.

I don't know how many times in past years I applauded our defensive guys saavy for staying put, while other teams tried their best to sucker us offsides on third and short, or fourth and short. This year, we fell for it, over and over. Cue the "free" first down, and the other teams offense stayed on the field.

Those things are for sure things that Dabo can get fixed, because he has already done it in the past. I just don't know what the disconnect was this year. If it was complacency, well that will for sure not be an issue next year. There will be at least one new sheriff in town, maybe more.

Agree with the number of penalties. Magnified on offense because we couldn’t

Consistently pass our way out of a wet paper sack.

But I thought we got rooked on some of the offsides calls on the D-line. This defense encroachment causing the offensive line to move crap was awful. Especially against Nancy State.

It feels like this program is hemorrhaging at an unsustainable rate between players and coaches leaving. Next year is going to be HUGE. I hope Dabo can get it turned around. I hope this program has staying power and wasn't just a flash in the pan.

A flash in the pan???? Are you crazy? Show me a program that had as many runs in the CFP and won a couple of national championships along the was…….you think all that’s been a flash in the pan? Horse feathers

Get out of here with that flash in the pan crap! 10 years of 10 + wins ain’t easy for any program. I might be wrong but I think have 4+ years of 13 wins. Flash in the pan! Psssshh!

Test Of Character!

Dec 7, 2021, 10:13 PM

When the team is down or had a bad practice - it's a test of character as to how they respond to that adversity!
As a fan base - this will test some characters' integrity and spirit and loyalty quite a bit. Will these fair-weather fans jump ship because the seas get rough? Who knows?

What I know is; from day one the thing that Dabo Swinney could do well is "communicate"! He can speak well and get people to listen!
He - not BV or Mike Jones, Chez Melusi, Frank Ladson, etc. who are leaving(no issues with them leaving they are Tigers wish them well). Dabo did that and Dabo can still put on the charm!

How do you get a CJ Spiller to "leave Florida" as a 5.5-star recruit and come to Clemson in the 1st place?
He has the "gift of gab" as they say! I think it may take some figuring out, but I have zero doubt it will get figured out. Because beyond that exterior Dabo presents is an assassin who wants to win!

The fun is in the winning and Dabo and Clemson are not done having fun!

I believe Dabo is going to definitely fix this. It’s really unfortunate that we lost Coach Venables, he was a heck of a Defensive Specialist and architect of the best Defenses in the country. Will it be tough to find another, yep, but who’s to say that there is another young up an coming DC out there who is chomping at the bit to come to Clemson and take this Defense to a whole nether level. I trust Dabo has someone on his radar, especially on the offensive side of the ball. There’s definitely a young and ready to upgrade the uptempo offense style of that of Chad Morris out there. I wouldn’t doubt if Dabo hasn’t already pegged him and got him on speed dial. We will soon see!

How can anyone say this is more severe than in 2011, when we got destroyed in the Orange Bowl ? I guess everybody seems to forget that we have been in the College Football Playoff 6 years in a row until this year . WE won 2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS against the media darling Alabama the last one 44-16 . EVERYTHING will be okay , Clemson University has been a top football program since the great John Heisman coached us through Frank Howard and Danny Ford to Dabo Swinney. Dabo is a GREAT COACH and a problem solver we WILL BE BACK much to the irritation of the main stream media who still thinks for the most part we shouldn't be even talked about. We'll be back trust me.

Gotta love a tumultuous 9-3 season

Dec 8, 2021, 10:41 AM

Seriously it was disheartening to see #5 be somebody I thought he wasn't. But so much promise like many seasons before.
For BV, pawl Johnson is gone so no worrying about an excellent p5 option! Also we have personnel to spy a QB. Dabo brought him in from before dcs just like before to Morris to Elliot and Scott. I know Dabo has a play or three and knew this was coming atleast. So excited to see Cade and next up baby!
Go tigers!

Get what fixed? Be careful how you title your articles, recruits and their parents read stuff into things. We had an off year by our standards, but one data point doesn’t equal “broke”.

Nick Saban replaces coordinators and assistant coaches every year. Dabo will succeed.
