I think that if facemask are worn, and disinfectant hand cleansing thingies are put on the wall in every classroom and halls, things should move right along without a breakout of the covid-19 virus anywhere on campus. What will be really hard to deal with, is where the student are going and coming in touch with after class is over at the end of the day and on weekends. Every teacher/professor should have a hand held Infrared Thermometer, and check the temp of every student when entering the classrooms, and things should be as safe as can be without total vacancy!!!

to and from the parking lots, apartments? Everything is basically satellite parking now with buses. and they tend to be packed tight right before classes. So...still some other areas that need to be addressed.

You are right about that - many issues on campus can be at least partly contained but off campus there will be no social distancing. Maybe we get at least some campus life early on and then who knows. Lets see how far the current spikes showing up from partial reopening go and we might have a better projection. We have to get in some in person education and activities when we can in my opinion with plans to revert back to cover as needed to slow it back down.

Glad my daughter has only 2 online classes to graduate this summer and is working and living at home on James Island . There's plans well made and all , but we will have to wait and see how it all pans out over the summer . One front says stay low , do the protocol and be diligent . Another says back to normal , wipe your mouth with the waiter's apron and breath deeply. Gonna be interesting to see what happens come fall and cooler weather . Not worried totally , but I do like our chances with the 2020 football season as it stands today .

That’s good news, I’ll need several pony tails to keep my hair off the ground if our hair folks don’t go back to cutting hair.

We are all hoping! Fingers crossed. A lot will likely change over the summer and so much will have to happen to be ready for anyone to open - let's hope the changes are for the better and we are back in some fashion!

Just wish they would give the actual dates that students would be getting back. Per cnn and msnbc very few states meet the 14 day criteria.

To be fair, I don't think they can be any more specific at this point other than they hope to start the end of this month and hope to be back (on some level) to start some classes face to face in August. A lot to be covered between point A and point B!

Why is the Police Chief the guy who seems to be in charge

of decision-making and planning??? Seems weird, you'd think an academic or health official would be leading the charge.

They need to figure out "MOVING OUT" a whole lot better

All the students who live on campus still have not been able to pick up their belongings. They just announced they are making 'appointments' for a 4 hour period...some people got notified last night & have to get their stuff on Friday. Hopefully, they will start with people close to Clemson, but what about somebody living in Colorado & have to come in for 1 day and then return home and then come back in a month?!?

You can keep the students separated during class. How is the school going to help keep gatherings from getting out of hand while out of class? That's when close contact is going to happen.

I feel a few points are to be made.
I think the university needs to monitor not just cases, but percent of positive tests. Local hospital did more tests last week than any other week since this all started. tied their second highest total number of Weekly cases. If you were to assess cases, it looks like there is no downward trend. However, they also had their second lowest percent positive test results, around 6%, less than half of their highest week in early April. In fact, the percent of positive cases has been trending down since that peak in early April. They are simply testing many more people. The whole month of April they could only test health care workers and people over 65 with comorbidities. In May, they expanded to testing more people based on a scoring system of risk factors. Today actually they removed any restrictions on who could be tested as long as they are symptomatic.
What I’m saying is making the decision based on case trend may not be the best option. I think watching the incidence is probably better than the prevalence.
Also, students will not wear masks, and they will party, go downtown and share beers. They are very low risk. If older faculty with medical problems have concerns they should consider continuing to sequester themselves. In SC people under 50 represent 50% of cases and Only 1% of deaths.
