I saw this happening the very moment Va went up 11-10 over our Tigers. The 3 pointers went on vacation as soon as the team beat NC State bc our guys couldn't pray enough to get them in the net tonight. If the blow hards within the NCAA selection committee refuses to call Clemson's name as one of the tournament teams, it just means that something is terribly wrong with the way teams are selected. IMO, even if they select Clemson, i'll still believe there is something terribly wrong with the way teams are selected for the tournament, and any other decisions the NCAA makes for all of college sports. There should have been a disbandment of the NCAA years and years ago with a better organization making and enforcing the rules of college sports. The NCAA organization that's been in place for longer than a lot of us have been alive, believe they are college sports that couldn't go on without them, and it's WAY past time to show them just how wrong they are!!!!

I agree with you. I personally am not a smart man, but I when I hear how these NET rankings and the committee calculates all this advanced mathematics...I'm not sure even the pundits know what the heck they are saying.

To keep it simple, I say take the top (4) teams out of every P5 conference, and let the other (48) "Cinderella's" deal with the advanced mathematics/chaos.

Also, I *believe* it was Qualk (but maybe Walt?) who referenced this on the air, but no double-bye conference opponent has ever been left out of the selection for the Dance FWIW.

But yes, I think the NCAA is corrupt as heck.

While I share in your disappointment, we had three things go against us, one we can't help, two we can:

1. A terrible conference Strength of Schedule (I realize we can't help who in our conference will play well when we set that schedule and honestly, we brought others down too...see #3, so all's fair).

2. A horrendous non-conference Strength of Schedule (it was ranked well above 300 or some such nonsense and like in football, if you schedule cupcakes, it will cost you in the end).

3. Suffering inexplicable beat downs (yes, I realize we smoked others too, but being pounded by Loyola Chicago, who has a lot of L's and kinda sucks, getting beat by Boston College, who are rumored to be pondering tearing down their arena in order to build a Starbucks Superstore, and the Coup De Grace, getting absolutely curb stomped by Virginia, who is actually pretty good, two days before Selection Sunday garners little respect from the committee).

Pardon the run-on sentence, but you must admit, it was impressive in its meandering.

We may be #3 in the ACC, but the fact is the ACC is most assuredly Un-Good as a conference this year, if not outright bad.

The good news is that it has been since I was at Clemson that we are showing actual promise. However, I feel compelled to temper my expectation because one season a trend does not make. We were abandoned by Rick Barnes back then which wrecked us and we have a tough decision to make about Brownell, so who knows?

Suffer a tougher schedule, recruit aggressively; both portal and high school and then we may become a basketball school like Alabama. I can't believe I just said that.

I realize speaking honestly here has its risks, but in the end, why lie to yourself?

Until the day I die...Go Tigers!!

The losses to the chickens, Loyola IL, and Louisville were all clunkers. Two of those three teams are sitting at the bottom of their conference ranking with the third almost at the bottom. I am so sad for the Tiger players because they could have won this tournament. If not this year then when? This team has also done some good things this season and I hope they get selected tomorrow night.

Is the NET ranking an equivalent to the CFP ranking in football? Basketball needs to have a system like football where the ranking is announced each week starting mid season . You could have the final ranking show with the top 64 making the tournament.

It is a shame that our last game before selection night should end this way, but this team has everything to be proud of. Picked 11th, they finished 3rd regular season and in the tournament. They played great as individuals and as a team. If they are left out, it would be a tragedy. If we are left out and Brownell is fired after this year, it would be a double tragedy.

Maybe CBB should have rested the starters

Mar 11, 2023, 9:11 AM

a little bit more on Thursday when they were up 30 and knew they had another late game on Friday. For that matter, maybe he should have played more than 7 guys over the course of the season. I hope that the players get to play in the Big Dance, but I hope that Neff is not blinded by this year’s anomaly and cuts the cord on CBB.

Serious question for all you coaches out there…Is a zone defense a better way to defend Virginia’s constantly screening offense? Let them run around your zone as long as they want to, tiring themselves out.

Depends a lot on whether they are hitting 3's and how good their big guys down low in the middle are playing.

I thought the team came out flat and uninspired, which I blame squarely on the coach. Maybe Dabo should have come to give them a pregame pep talk. I quit watching when 3 Clemson players let 1 UVA player take a rebound from under the net and put it back for 2 points. There is absolutely no excuse for that except a lack of fire in the belly to win a game. The shooting was off, but we threw the ball away and got out rebounded way too often. That said, Brownell should have known what kind of ball UVA plays and had a game plan to deal with it. I'll bet Duke will. We'll see tonight. As for the NCAAs. I'd just as soon not see another one-and-done performance in the big tournament. If this season has saved BB's job for another year or so, then we'll continue to play mediocre basketball and CU fans will continue to look forward to the football season beginning.

The Gump clan that hangs out here will have your team in the NiT, but stupid is as stupid does and this team might surprise
