The offensive staff is completely overmatched. I would keep Elliott (maybe not in the same role) but I would let the rest of them look for opportunities elsewhere. I agree with Paul Feinbaum that the best part of the offense left with Jeff Scott.

I suppose it was lazy writing; but the author could have also just been trying to be nice. GT defense is not bad, it's awful....which means Clemson's offense is worse than awful. But to say that yet again here would just be redundant.
Perhaps the only thing worse than Clemson's offense is my typing (I just made several corrections).

they HAVE GONE OFF THE FREAKIN CLIFF. One person has led the way and it's not the QB. Any guesses? I think everyone knows the answer. I wish anyone and everyone would stop putting the SC St. stats in print. I know most all teams put weaklings on their schedule but just means you want to pad your record and stats. That was nothing more than a glorified practice and certainly not a dominate one at that. The ride has been a good one and the King is dethroned. If no semblance of improvement another potential 4 to 5 losses are on the horizon. It's unbelievable the consistent top recruiting classes that have been scored and this is the best offense you can muster and then say we got what we got. At some point and time these guys have to be developed. When your offense doesn't scare any defense and pitiful tight end play along with not being able to throw over the middle it's no wonder. It's a shame you can't keep a defense guessing and they already know what you are going to do. It's so bad when you witness a severe mugging going on and that's when your offense absolutely mugs your own defense. It's simply just an ugly look. Currently the offense looks like a reaction offense and not an attacking offense. What will the future hold? Time will tell.

The gap between pre-season image and current reality is as broad as I can remember for any college team. Clemson is mediocre in a mediocre league, and there is no reason to think we can be anything but an ACC spoiler for the remainder of the season. The real question is what this will do for recruiting, because this season is worse than a wash. The aura is departing, and I fear 4 and 5 stars will begin to look elsewhere when they consider which of 5-6 schools they will attend. In a highly competitive environment there is no reason to think the bad news avalanche won't gain momentum.

Dabo said that what they have has worked in the past. It's certainly not working now and I don't think the past really worked that well unless you add a Trevor or a Watson and go up against inferior ACC teams. It was certainly challenged against championship caliber teams. There's also the inability to change during a game that seems to be lacking. That might be because the OC is not capable of making changes during the game. His knowledge doesn't allow for that and everything has to be preplanned before the game. Another thing of concern might be all the players who have left thru the portal may have given the playbook to the competition.

If you watch the entire press conference (and all of the other post-game press conferences this season) Dabo goes on and on about lack of player-execution despite calling good plays. In response to Larry Williams question about RG3's "archaic" comment (see link to Larry's question & Dabo's answer below) Dabo doesn't specifically address the question. He says that criticism is warranted and you're gonna get criticism because the expectations are high. He says that the scheme has been working for a long time (which is what the Wishbone Option Offense coaches said back in the 1970's). But then he goes on for several more sentences about how the players didn't execute and how it's natural for there to be criticism. He has never publicly critiques the offensive coaching (prep, scheme, game-planning, play-calling, or lack of adjustments) but he'll go on and on critiquing players and their execution. I don't get the sense that he believes that the offense is archaic. It mostly worked when DW4 and TL were pulling the trigger so he seems to think that it must still be good.
I know it's practically impossible for the local sport media to directly provide any negative critique because the AD will deny them special access and destroy their livelihoods, but kudos to Larry Williams for at least posing the question, albeit by blaming the analysis on RG3. (It's not just RG3. LOTS of other analysts have said the exact same thing.)

Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence will make just about any system look good but even with those two how many times did they have to improvise because of mediocre blocking and very little separation with the wide receivers? Back shoulder throws, jump balls, etc. If you have to have a Watson or a Lawrence to put up numbers than your system sucks. I’m venturing to bet Dabo knows that but what can you do at this moment? I believe there will be significant changes in the off-season but it’s not like he can do anything right now.

They could update the playbook a bit. Dabo could give Streeter a chance at running the offense while officially keeping TE as the OC for the rest of the season. It's hard to believe that the only choice is to keep doing the same things week after week.

He’s a good recruiter but what QB has really seen their game go up a level from where they started? DW, KB, TL—all left CU with pretty much the exact same game they arrived with. And now DJU has regressed under his watch. No more in-house lazy promotions.

I have a thought and I’d really like some comments on it. Back in the 50’s Clemson had two QB’s who each had a “squad” of their own 10 players : L. Shingler and H. White. We’ve wasted an abundance of talent and seen good players who aren’t getting playing time go to the portal and start for other teams. Why not give DJ and Taison each a squad, no first or second team designation, and rotate them in and out, not necessarily alternating, depending on who is being successful. It would make it harder for opponents to prepare for a given QB and would give some players who are riding the bench a chance to show their metal. What could it hurt? Nothing else has worked. I may have my players confused, but somewhere back in that earlier time we played LSU in the SugarcBowl with Billy Cannon at QB. We were supposed to get run out. We lost 7-0 on either a fumble or interception. I’m not sure the two platoon approach and the Sugar Bowl appearance were connected. I was young then. We’ve got to try something else.

Well I am old enough..................I and another Clemson drove from Panama city Fl to the game, rain all the way, oil on the road and was kicked up on our windshield and we used coca cola to keep our w/s clean or clean enough....the rain stopped before we arrived at Tulane stadium, the game started and the score was o/o in the 4th and the Clemson defense knocked out the LSU QB and Billy Cannon took over as QB/he was their featured running back and had around 60 yds. He kept running the ball until he threw one pass for the only TD. We lost 7/0....They selected Clemson to play against the LSU tigers with our 8-2 record, losing to the coots and GT and on Jan, LSU, C.B's.Clemson ended with a #12 ranking...long ride back home. old memories...best to you

I'm pretty happy to see him own the offensive side of the ball criticism. Many fans on this board have been coming down on those of us who have been speaking out about our horrible offense through 4 weeks. The head man himself, Dabo states it is warranted and he can't say otherwise.
We still have attainable goals ahead. The ACC is not lost to us, yet. Uphill battle all the way. But it can be done.
Bring on BC and let's get this taken care of.
