It's too bad there can't be an early signing period of, say, August. Secure those that are committed, and figure out those that are waivering. Hope this kid sticks with his commitment to us. It seems that forces are at work.

They should have to sign professional contracts since they want to be payed as professionals. If they breach the contract they sit a year and the team that tampered pays a steep fine.

Don’t verbally commit unless you are committed. Unfortunately, our society is ok with it. (Exception: If you commit and the coach leaves, etc)

Absolutely correct Tigerchrisl. That's the only way to get it fixed. You'd still have the McDonald's bags but if a kid takes a bag, we don't want them anyway.

I was hoping this would be part of the house settlement. Sounds like we might be portal shopping. We can ill afford to have what happened last year, happen again this cycle.

They should also make the contracts performance based. Coaches have them, why not the players? Here's your base. A DB makes 3 ints, you get $100k bonus; 5 ints, you get$$$$. If you give up 3 TDs, you give back $250k. DEs gets $250k for 8 sacks. Etc....

I totally agree with that. I watched a video a few years ago about Mississippi HS recruits and how they would take money from both Ole Miss and MSU boosters and then sign with an Alabama for still more money. Cheating is now legal and the money will keep coming until signing day.
Saban and Smart are whining now about the current system, yet Saban even admitted on draft day that they meddled with a CB from a MAC school who went high in the draft. Make them sign on first Wednesday in August and have another signing day in December and February.
I think that’s a great idea. Then, they can’t be harassed non stop until portal time.

Even after they "sign on the dotted line" it doesn't mean a lot.

Until you make a commitment more binding this crap will continue. Most of the kids (recruits) can't what a commitment is. Well, it seems their only commitment is to ca$h!!! I wish they can legally end this NIL and paying players via contracts in the courts or congress. The greedy parents are getting involved and have become the oars and the rudder in the recruitment process. Many of these recruits cannot even choose the school that THEY like the Mose, but when momma makes a commitment they fall in line!!! This whole NIL process is just as corrupt (if not more than) politics and politicians. I'm getting to the point just to see the whole of college football get burned down...

I was thinking the same thing but, I'm also thinking that the situation with a committed recruit, the program that they have committed to still has to spend a ton of money by having to still recruit them hard even when a school has them committed. IMPO, that there is a process that truly needs fixing so that a coaching staff can use their recruiting time recruiting other recruits with interest in your program without having to steady recruit committed recruits...
