Tin Foil Drawer

Anyone’s grandparents (or parents) have one? My grandparents on my dads side were raising kids right in the middle of the depression so we’re always reusing what they could. When I was a kid, they had a drawer in the kitchen with used aluminum foil…some of which appeared to be from the depression era.

Mine also. My grandmother saved everything and sat in the dark until he got home from work. At that stage he had become a very successful business man and one of means.

Haha…My dad and aunt both still sit in the dark. They watch TV at night but there won’t be a single other light source on in the house.

I STILL go from room to room turning off lights that are on. It was drilled in my head by my father in the 1970’s Energy Crisis!

My wife and I do that-why would we have other lights on if we're sitting watching tv? I even close all the doors so we don't air condition the outside. Heard that a million times growing up and I guess it stuck.

I think that's a tin foil hat tidbit.

And put it in the draw with the unused tub foil. Plastic wrap, and butcher paper

Yep…Dad saves the little clips and twist ties and grandparents did the same with those and rubber bands. I will admit that I have needed a rubber band many times over the years and had none.

My parents and grandparents unfortunately had to live through it

Pray that it never happens again

No sense in tossing it if it's clean and has no holes. But I do that with a lot of things. Grandparents grew up in Great Depression.
