Tim Tebow

I am a fan. During his time there I even pulled a little for Florida, as who could not? As a freshman he was on the bench behind Chris Leak who was very good. Tebow mostly came in to pound for a couple hard yards. He finished 2006 with the second-most rushing yards on the Gator team while playing back up QB.
In 2007 he won the Heisman, and deserved it. In 2008 he was a close third and got the most 1st place votes. In 2009 he was battered into the hospital, but ran for his 51st rushing touchdown, breaking the SEC career record previously held by Herschel Walker. In his last college game (Sugar Bowl) he completed 31-of-35 passes for 482 yards and three touchdowns and accounted for four total touchdowns and 533 yards of total offense, which set a record for a Bowl Championship Series game.
Can he play NFL at 33? He is said to be in great shape. He is getting minimum $ about a million if he hangs. None of it is guaranteed, he may not make the final cut. I am sure he likes $$, but he has more than most. He wants to play, be on a team. His Jersey sales lead the nation even over Lawrence and Fields, so the Jags already made a profit.
This is a guy I would hire for my team, even if it was team ping pong or ###. He is a team player. I don't expect him to be an all star tight end, but I hope he does well.

That's not accurate, either; I explicitly support equal rights, & I celebrate Coach Butler and her family.
Maybe you meant to respond to the other comment instead of mine is all, but hope this helps.

It's the opposite, though, by nature.
Stop joking about this stuff. It's not funny, it's not right, and I DON'T have to be OK with it, that's all.
If we didn't learn that from our own Clemson football team in 2020, I get it, but I can't just ignore it is all. They were the first to stand up. Let's not forget that just because we can be anonymous here. Cheers.

Did you check first with him to see if it’s okay to call him a snowflake? Because he might NOT be OK with that. And somehow I think we are supposed to care if he’s OK with it.

Call me a snowflake all you want.
That's not the same as calling people gay, or making fun of their size, or really ANYTHING ELSE CLEMSON FOOTBALL PLAYERS FOUGHT AGAINST LAST YEAR.
Again, that's for some Clemson fans, like me. Some are just toxic, racist, sexist, anonymous bandwagoners instead.
The choice is up to you, but it shouldn't ever be a surprise we're not all OK with it is all. Cheers.

Right.
Once a Clemson fan questions whether or not other Clemson fans should be making homophobic jokes & fat-shaming threads he must be a sensitive Gamecock fan instead.
Good grief, y'all. I get that it's fun to be anonymous, but I'm just plain disappointed it's OK to behave that way here on Tigernet so often, that's all.
But hey, Trevor will never know the horrible things we say about his teammates, thank God. Here's hoping Coach Butler & Coach Swinney et.al don't find out, either. Cheers.

Re: Tim Tebow

I'm a fan as well. This guy is a rare breed of talent and humility. People love to take shots at someone like this because they think the image portrayed can't possibly be the reality. They like to blame others for "creating or manufacturing" the personality rather than accepting the possibility that there is someone in the world like this who genuinely cares about people but also is a great competitor and highly motivated to achieve his goals and dreams.
And now you have the lunatic fringe wanting to drag Kapernick into the discussion and try and say how he deserves another shot before Tebow. The truth is he had a real shot had he not acted like the clown he is during his last tryout when the NFL gave him a chance as they have never given anyone else. He decided to use his time as a platform for social injustice rather than doing everything he could to land a job back in the NFL. The reality is he has made far more money being a Nike hack than he would ever make being a backup QB, and he knows it! It is funny to hear Stephen A call him out at the time as having no one to blame but himself, and now Stephen A wants to claim racism for giving Tebow another chance instead of Kap. The loonie left in this country is the height of hypocrisy.
Good luck Tim Tebow, as always, do your best and make us proud!

but I don't hate the guy like so many.
Who can blame Tebow for accepting an invite to Tampa? Competing is what athletes do.
On the other hand, Urban Meyer seems to be a very low-character guy. Other than he's been a very successful coach in college and one of the best CFB studio guys ever, I don't have anything good to say about him.

People want to make more of it than it really is. The reality is Meyer and Tebow have a long history and personal relationship and Meyer is grateful for what Tebow produced for him on the field at FLA that led to great personal success for Coach Meyer. Coach really isn't taking much of a risk to give someone he feels indebted to a chance to make the team. Tebow is 1 of 90 right now, so the odds that he gets down to the final roster are very much against him.
He's a Jacksonville kid, a Florida Gator, and a great role model. Who wouldn't give someone like this another shot, no matter how unlikely it is to work out?

Is it really that crazy to suggest Tim Tebow might instead be GREAT in the league with this team & at tight end?
I don't think it's that nuts, but I don't think anyone has really thought of the possibility.
Everything you said is accurate. What if instead of simply not screwing it up, he becomes a competitive player & integral part to the Jaguars, even a legitimate star in the league?
I certainly wouldn't discourage that.

I didn't say he HAS to be great.
But think about IF he ends up being great.
All those things you mentioned & it will still be a surprise to many (if not most) if he ends up being a legitimate cog in Jacksonville's success on the field.
Frankly it wouldn't surprise me at all. Tebow is a champion. Fingers crossed we get to see him play at a championship level.

It is kind of crazy. Tebow will be the least talented athlete at Jags training camp. He should be learning to coach WR's and TE's not play TE. He's slow, he can't catch, he can't block, he can't run routes, and he can't play special teams with the younger, faster, stronger, more experienced guys on the team. Remember Tebow has not played in a decade. And he's been cut by a handful of teams since Denver QB days because he cannot transition to TE.
He needs to be in Gainesville with his former OC Dan Mullen learning to coach.
Tebow does good in this world. And he loves to stay in the spotlight to pump up his charities which is understandable. And Mr. Khan loves that Tebow is a Florida Gator all-time favorite which is important in Jacksonville ticket dept which has struggled since Khan purchase.
Not much discussion out there on how Tebow will help or hurt Lawrence, ETN, the Offense and the team. My take is nhe's a good guy who will be cu fairly early. To be determined.

Urban Meyer is the catalyst in this. The NFL is not about character. Disneyland used to promote that but have gone astray. This is PRO football.
Meyer ranks as an expert. Like him or hate him, he is a proven winner. Apparently he took this gig with more control than most coaches have. Maybe he is paying Tebow back, maybe he believes this is part of winning in Jax. Meyer intends to win. He knows more about that most.

that the very fact that he is a devout Christian, who professes his faith in public, gets a bad target painted on his back.
The jackals of the press are lying in wait just to see if he accidentally steps on a butterfly in training camp. If so, it would be front page news. Heaven help him if he really does exhibit a human foible, they will hound him into obscurity.
I don't know if he makes it or not. But, if I was a betting man, my money would be on him at least making it to the final cut.

I disagree. In part because I'm not seeing this big target on his back you mention. There's probably some people turned off by him simply due to the amount of attention he gets. I remember a lot of fans on this very site who constantly complained of all the attention and hype he got while playing at Florida. I don't see that as anyone having a problem with Tebow as a person though, and certainly not as a result of his faith.
I also disagree in the press waiting to see him screw up, or the press in general having any issues with Tebow. ESPN is the largest sports press in the world, and they hired Tebow to work on their network. This is also the same press that made countless features and wrote countless articles covering his faith. If there's such a huge problem with his fait from the media, then why would they give him a platform for all of that? A recent poll still showed 65% of Americans identifying themselves as Christians. Are we suggesting the media wouldn't be made up of similar numbers?

I believe Tebow is a real Christian guy, and very into "the Word" and a great person, and all that, God bless him. But, he had the chance to be a CU Tiger and turned it down... okay, he earned 2 NC's at Fla. and a Heisman, and he probably made the best decision of his life, but it really didn't get him anywhere... what exactly did he major in at Fla... baseball didn't pan out, but he's still trying to make a ridiculous living in the NFL? And actually making it? It's apparently all about the sales and sponsorships, but time and performance will tell.
Go Tigers!!!

Me, too, FWIW. Nice to know I'm not the only one here who has similar beliefs.
I don't remember Tim Tebow being a Clemson lean, though?
I admit I didn't follow recruiting as closely back then (albeit likely none of us did by nature), but I thought he was an Alabama lean and ended up being a huge "get" for Florida?
