Tiger Hour with Dabo Swinney thread (UNC week)
Sep 29, 2025, 8:05 PM
|
|
Dabo Swinney is doing his radio show live now.
* He says the open date week was much needed health-wise and to assess and reasess the season so far. Says the team was in good spirits and ready for a reset. Now it's about finding a way to win a ballgame.
* He calls UNC a physical football team that's improving. Says they are like Clemson in trying to find out who they are. He says last week was a good week practice and that everyone is on the same page. He says the problems with Clemson in 2025 are "football stuff." Needing to do the little things better.
* He points to the injury of Gio Lopez at QB for UNC and the uncertainty on who they will face in him or Max Johnson.

He says there was mostly "Clemson work" in the open date week but they did get somewhat of a head start on UNC.
He says that they scrimmaged on Wednesday and were able to work in some guys who hadn't played much yet this season.

Swinney says adversity brings out the best and worst in people, and he says the team is learning great lessons. He isn't shocked by the response he's seen from the team.
"We've done a poor job [this season] as coaches to get them to play to their potential and play their best. That's on us as coaches."
He says the team has responded well over the last week. He says his team has chosen to fight out of the adversity.

Swinney says he's seen across-the-board leadership out of the 1-3 start, but he points to Antonio Williams in particular for stepping up.
"His maturity, his perspective...it's just awesome to see."
Also mentions Cade Klubnik, Walker Parks, Peter Woods, TJ Parker, Adam Randall, Tristan Leigh and some more Tigers for that leadership.

Swinney says they would have had a "couple key players out for sure" if they played last week, but he says that those unnamed players are all expected to be available for this weekend.

Swinney says Klubnik has been really good at times and not been as good at times. He says there have been some key miscues.
"Cade's got to be better, but everybody's got to be better."

Swinney was asked if he will have coordinators available for interviews postgame in the future and he offered a definitive "no" on that.

Swinney will be coaching his 300th game with Clemson on Saturday (as an assistant and head coach).

Swinney recalls a story ahead of the 2003 season (when he joined Clemson eventually) of going to Alabama thinking he would have a job with Mike Price's staff, but Price made a last minute decision to not hire Swinney.
Price, of course, would never coach a game with Alabama after an offseason scandal.
Swinney got a call out of the blue from Tommy Bowden a few weeks after Price had rejected him.

Swinney says they aren't going back to Patriots tape despite just a four-game sample, but they are looking at Washington Huskies tape with Bill Belichick's son coaching there previously. Also some video of transfers who came in.

Swinney says they want to be a balanced offense and play with tempo as needed. Not being able to play complementary football has hurt having any kind of rhythm so far this season on offense.

Swinney wants his team to play like it has practiced. That's been the most frustrating thing for him to not see that carry over.
He says it's on the coaches to bring that over to the field in games.

Sure. They're incredible when you can't see them. Sounds like the MSM insisting that Biden was sharp as a tack, behind closed doors.

Or Fox, OAN, NewsMax never showing Trump's lies, misinformation, ramblings, and failed promises, or our country's steady slide towards authoritarianism via Trump's blatant defiance and disregard of the Constitution and our justice system.
Bringing politics into a football post is not cool is it? Works both ways.

Your response is the typical talking points TDS rant the heathen, militant left espouse. Any objective person can see the difference. Try living one week MSM/politics free. It will do wonders for your mental wellbeing.

One thing that has changed about Dabo has been how the last few years he has pumped up the team in pre-season.
I remember when we were on our run it was nothing but what they needed to do to improve.
I guess when the record isn't there, you have to shield your team a bit, but we were pre-season #4 in the nation with Heisman talk and 4-5 first rounders.
Perhaps our offense has looked great in practice against our defense. That is not a compliment to our offense; it may be the sad reality of our defense.
It's 100% coaching.... no other explanation.
Being high speed is nothing more than the mastery of the basics.... slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. If this senior laden and experienced team needs to work on the basics, that is 100% coaching.

...maybe Dabo has forgotten where he parked the ROY bus and bought a new ROU (Rest of Us) bus. Seemed we played better when we were the hunting vs being the hunted. Maybe the coaches, players and fan have all become lazy and entitled...a bad combination. Just MTC.

Not sure we currently have enough "elite' athletes. We may look great in practice, but if, during practice you don't have those elite "Iron sharpens iron" players, on game day it shows.

When both sides of ball are mediocre. They probably look really good against each other. But when our defense or offense can’t do anything against competition it explains the mediocrity they practice against daily
