Thoughts on the defense?

Considering LSU’s talent level and the fact they had the ball for 37 minutes, I thought the defense played well. It wasn’t perfect, we were gashed several times, and the DL was not consistent in applying pressure. I’d like to see Jeremiah Alexander get some snaps. Woodaz is not good enough. If Goodwin was the coach, I think LSU would have easily broken into the 30s and had at least 200 rushing yards.
Game 1 Tom Allen easily outperformed year 3 Garrett Riley.

Agree. Defense played well enough to win. Tackling is much improved.

it all the more frustrating that OUR receivers couldn't seem to find a square inch of the field that wasn't covered by at least one LSU defender. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?

The only pathetic tackling effort I saw was from #5 late in the game on a long play. I'm sure he'll have some explaining to do in the film room.
Hard to say how good they can be after this one game -- they were so gassed by mid-third because the O couldn't sustain a drive. Was like being back in the DJU years.

Agree. Defense did their job for the most part. There were some minor issues but seemed much improved from last season. Once again, the offense didn’t help them at all.
Woodaz has no business on the field and the entire team needs to have the heart and drive that Sammy Brown has.

We still can’t tackle. I wasn’t impressed with Allen at Penn state and probably won’t be here.

Sammy Brown is a stud. It's the stephalan green, and the defensive line played decent. Secondary need some work. Ronan played better than expected. And Wade woodazz needs to give up football because he is constantly out of place and can't tackle in space. Been doing this for 4 years. Just my thoughts.
I was a little disappointed that Tom Allen cannot make more adjustments to offset the screen and crossing routes with misdirection. The only plus I seen was the tackling was better as a whole.

Would’ve been nice to see how that performance would’ve looked with even a semblance of an offense. Sadly we are so far away from having one of those it’s impossible to tell.

I agree with much of your sentiment. The defense had some issues but for game 1, year 1 of a new DC... it was good enough to give us a chance to win the game.

If you told me before the game LSU would only score 17 pts, I would have bet the ranch we would win the game by double digits.
