Thought TNet was Clemson Atheltics not gay bashing

I don't post a whole lot on here but am a long time reader of posts. I've always enjoyed the insight into Tiger football and commiserating after tough losses. However, in fair disclosure I did post two replies to two recent posts about Dabo's planned attendance at the Palmetto family whatever.
As a gay person in South Carolina, I am no stranger to having insults hurled at myself, my boyfriend, or my friends. This is especially true when the insults can be done behind a computer screen. I just thought this forum was something to discuss Clemson and its athletics. Based on the various threads over the past few days, I was wrong. I don't expect to change any minds on acceptance same sex relationships. Just understand that when you call people names (deviants, freaks, whatever) you're saying that about people.
I'm a big boy and can take care of myself but there are a lot of teenagers and young adults out there (probably some reading these threads and maybe some yalls kids and maybe some students at Clemson) that are scared out their minds because they know they're different.

I understand our demographic and prefer issues like this are not brought up. But Dabo handled it properly and I applaud him.

everybody is different. we are all unique.
people get picked on for all different sorts of things. young conservatives get ridiculed by liberals a lot, young women used to say horrible things to me when i would challenge them on their pro choice stance on abortion.

I appreciate that and wasn't looking for any sympathy. Just ask people to be be a little more understanding for the younger gays.
And those examples are a little different because those are all choices. Sexuality is hardwired into your brain...

i can't speak for everybody but it seems mine and most of the other conservative comments on here is that this is supposed to be a clemson sports website, not a gay marriage advocacy blog.
only reason the topic was being discussed was because of some political busybodies researching some group that wanted to give Dabo an award for something.

There's a segment of this site that's old fogie religious nutjobs and fox news regurgitators. It's too late to change their bigoted attitudes now. You gotta look at it from the other direction too. There's a lot of hypocrisy and overreaction from the LBGT community side, which pisses people off. No one likes being told what their moral code should be. We *should* all be able to agree that using sophomoric insults with regards to gay people is moronic--sadly there's going to be idiots in every camp.

And I never even mentioned the word conservative in my post, so I don't know what you are babbling about there. If you actually believe Fox News is anything but an entertainment venue catering to the simple minded you are beyond being reasoned with.

It don't bother me what so ever that you are gay, Bi, or straight. It's your life, live it as you must. But please don't say that same sex bonding as sexual lovers should also be constituted in a marriage of Holy matrimony. If you do, IMO, your marriage is Blasphemy against God, and every man and woman that has married since the beginning of time. It's a nasty black eye to the meaning of a marriage in Holy matrimony. I see a man and a woman and kids when I hear married couple, and so does the biggest majority of the world. IMHO, until gays whether it be 2 men or 2 women, can have children the traditional way as 1 man and 1 woman can do as a married couple, call your relationship anything you please except married. Gays in a serious relationship together should be described as Bonded in a same sex relationship. If you want it to be a legal bond as a man and woman marriage. Lobby our law makers to put into law a legal licence for Same sex Bonding till death do you part. And have basically the same rights as a Married man and woman with property ownership and tax laws. But if you split up, you should have to go into bond breaking court.

There is nothing "Holy" about it. We didn't get married to have children either. We are too old to have children.

Wow, what an incredibly ignorant post. You are free to believe whatever you wish, but this isn't the middle east, your beliefs system should have zero bearing on other people's rights.
> If you do, IMO, your marriage is Blasphemy against God, and every man and woman that has married since the beginning of time.
You do realize that the concept marriage was around long before your religion even existed right? What does any marriage have to do with another? How does someone else's marriage affect yours?
Live your life however you please, don't act like a bigot and suggest that your thoughts are superior to everyone else's.

They force you to sit through a prayer? This happens at Clemson?
Have they installed handcuffs and chains to stadium seating since last time I was there? I'm on your side as far as gay marriage, I'm just trying to figure out this whole forced seating thing.

People have a lot to apologize for to gay people
May 28, 2015, 12:53 PM

It's undeniable that many gay people have been treated poorly, and that was very wrong. Whatever people think of homosexual behavior, or whatever their idea of what's right and what's wrong sexually, people are people and they deserve to be treated with equal dignity.
However, I think you need to ask yourself, now that gay politics is ascendant and powerful, at what point the attempts to delegitimize and hound out of public everybody who disagrees will stop. Exercising a heckler's veto over Coach Swinney's acceptance of an award at a conservative pro-family group's banquet isn't the worst kind of political oppression, but I wonder why it's suddenly become too controversial to be associated with any group that opposes gay marriage while it's become nearly mandatory to align with pro-gay groups. It wasn't controversial when Ray Tanner accepted the award just a few short years ago, and there wasn't a rash of anti-gay animus at USC when Tanner took over at AD there.
The SC Family Foundation isn't even primarily concerned with homosexuality, and it's only "anti-gay" if that means being in any way opposed to a certain brand of gay political agenda. I can accept someone saying that Swinney having anything to do with a group that's politically controversial is a bad idea, but I hope people will remember that when other organizations that have stood on the other side of this issue, or that have taken other controversial stands, come calling. At some point, though, just telling people they can't be associated with any group that's opposed gay marriage in order to avoid controversy starts to look a little less than objective.

"disagree with us and you're a racist, sexist, homophobic, bigot who hates everyone that isn't like you"
It's scary to see how hard it is to actually have honest political debate and discourse in the current climate.

The SC Family Foundation view's on gays is that homosexuality is "physically, spiritually or emotionally damaging." So I'm not sure what part of being gay those bible thumpers are ok with but I'm going to go out on a limb and say nothing. I don't think asking someone not to support that group is radical. I don't think asking the government to give me to right to marry my boyfriend radical. If anything is radical, it's crazies using a two thousand year old book to justify denying American citizens equal protection under the law.
I think whining about the ascendancy of gay political power is little premature especially in this socially conservative state given that we are an extremely small portion of the population and dispersed nationwide. However, it is indicative of the growing acceptance nationwide of same sex relationships and the clear majority of Americans that now support same sex relationships. As usual, South Carolina is lagging towards the back. There are no legitimate grounds to stand on for opposing same sex relationships. Don't like gay marriage: don't get one!
Before anyone chimes in but the bible says Blah blah blah. This is about civil marriage as sanctioned by the state. Our great secular state founded by people for people. If you want a theocracy you should try out the Islamic republic of Iran.
Ray Tanner shouldn't haven't have accepted the award but then again if Ray Tanner jumped off a bridge should Dabo?

should be the very same as mine. You should be allowed the very same privileges and responsibilities as everyone else. The Almighty (he/she/it) does not discriminate. Civil versus church rituals my rear end. We are all equal.

Not to be a smarta$$. . but you'll note this website has several forums on various topics, neatly categorized and labeled.
The politics and religion does spill onto the sports sometimes, and the baseball is oozing all over the football lately (I for one am sick of the baseball people trying to shove their agenda down my throat), but it's the off season. The dreaded dead period. Whatcha gonna do?

or doesn't that bother you? Dood, or doodette if you prefer, we bash each other too.
Boyfriend shmoyfriend, I had two boyfriends when I was your age and a sugar daddy paying for our fun. I admit, this day and age has advantage though. Now we have tasers, back in 'the day,' we lined old tennis shoes with metal window screens and hooked up nine volt batteries to get our jolts.
