With so many legal ways to gamble, this just makes no sense to me. And I get they try to avoid the tax aspect of it, or paying the casino their 10%...still, not worth it.

I think this is more along the lines of point shaving like Jontay Porter. Obviously, no details as of yet but it could be a combination of both. Totally stupid behavior, and with the NCAA allowing betting for athletes and coaches starting next week it will only get worse.
All of these leagues need to get out of the bed with these betting agencies, it's hypocritical to ban players for gambling on games surrounded by betting ads and cutting to commercials promoting gambling.

Gambling has ruined pro sports leagues which have let the gambling sites into bed via sponsorships and partnerships. And it will soon be showing up in college sports, billed as a harmless, low-risk fun way to spend one's time for fans, and an easy way to monetize the product for the programs in need of NIL dollars.
