This could create a HUGE domino effect...

Oct 3, 2016, 2:39 PM [ in reply to And all of a sudden Tom Herman to LSU doesn't seem ]

particularly if the Auburn and Oklahoma jobs open-up as well.

I still say if LSU can manage to beat Alabama, Orgeron will remain as the LSU head coach and Herman likely ends-up at Texas.

Frankly I think he'd likely take the Texas job over LSU anyway.

I'm glad spurrier left when he did

Oct 3, 2016, 2:41 PM

Wouldn't want the coots to pick up strong, miles, or malzahn...Not that they would go to a 2nd or 3rd rate school tho...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hey...maybe Louisville can get Strong back....

Oct 3, 2016, 2:42 PM

after Petrino bails on them (again) for the Auburn job.

the $CU job. MusCoot was the only one who wanted it. I guess he figured it was better than being unemployed.

I could see Pitrino to LSU and Charlie Strong back to Louisville.

And Herman to UT. That makes the most sense...

Re: And all of a sudden Tom Herman to LSU doesn't seem

Oct 3, 2016, 2:43 PM

It almost seems like UT is worried about Herman going to LSU so they fired strong thinking that they could pull Herman to UT instead of LSU.

Southern Cal could easily open too. Clay Helton is not exactly making believers out of anybody right now.

Guarantee you the team laughing loudest at the end of this is going to be Louisville...because I can almost promise you Bobby Petrino gets bought by somebody. I was exchanging E-mails prior to the season with a fairly connected Auburn booster who mentioned Petrino was already lobbying for the Auburn job, again - he was laughing because "some things never change". At the end of the day, though, Petrino wins, his offense is lethal...and Louisville has him locked into a $7-million buyout, which a truly desperate program like Southern Cal or LSU or Auburn will pay. Which means the Cards bank his buyout, bring Charlie Strong back, and can then spend bank on support staff for him, and make out like absolute bandits.

I don't think it effects Clemson too much. Venables is a sexy, trendy name right now...but Venables is also a guy who doesn't shop himself and really has never shown any particular interest in being a head coach. You can bet somebody will probably come in for Jeff Scott - his recruiting track record and record for producing NFL wideouts is too good - but it'll cost close to $1 million to pry him away from Clemson since he's making $600K+ here - so his price tag could be prohibitive.

It could be a shockingly bloody offseason, whatever. Lotta traditional powers out there struggling right now.

Oklahoma and Auburn are probably going to be looking as well***

this doesn't make any sense..

Oct 3, 2016, 2:42 PM [ in reply to And all of a sudden Tom Herman to LSU doesn't seem ]

why would they announce that?

He just fired is D-coordinator and is taking over the defense... Not to mention, why would you put the program and coaches in a lose-lose position?

You can contact Herman w/o announcing this.

Doesn't make any sense

The real question is does this impact us?

Oct 3, 2016, 2:50 PM

Any coach is the country would have to listen to Texas if they called.Too much money and too fertile a recruiting area to not at least listen.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope....

Oct 3, 2016, 2:55 PM

unless some coach tries to hire Scott or Elliott as an assistant.

More than likely they want Herman and know after this year they won't be able to get him. The consensus is a big job will be open and he will go somewhere so if Texas waits then they'll miss out. Putting it out there now let's him know it's open where if they kept with the evaluation after the season creates doubt so he might take lsu before it closes.

Herman to Kentucky...

Oct 3, 2016, 8:31 PM [ in reply to And all of a sudden Tom Herman to LSU doesn't seem ]

Strong to Vandy. Briles to Louisville. Jimbo to Texas. Muscoot to fsu (kill another FL team). Coots to cancel football program.

Would we go after strong to replace him as DC or promote from within? Would lean towards hobby or Reid getting the promotion but Strong was a good DC at Carolina and Florida.
