I go back 30 years and remember wondering what was wrong

with my two year old --- cried for several months --- discovered she needed ear tubes --- quit crying instantly --- I always wonder if the babies crying on airplanes are in ear pain because of the increased pressure --- if the parents seem receptive towards the end of the flight I usually ask them if they ever had the kids checked. In the meantime, I put on my headsets and listen to loud classic rock.

Allow me to augment your basic premise...

You get on that 10pm flight with the screaming child.
After two hours the child finally cries himself out and you get a chance to grab three hours sleep.
You wake up five hours into the flight and realize they have yet to serve a meal, have yet to start a movie and the child wakes up for round two of his scream-fest.
You now have ten more hours of flight time before landing.
This is your flight from Los Angeles to Sydney.

probably worse that sitting in a pressurized, climate controlled cabin as you move effortlessly hundreds of miles that once took your ancestors your entire lives and fortune to get there.
