in any sport from the states of NC, SC, Ga. had an offer from Clemson and South Carolina, what possible reason would that person choose uSC ? Seems like an easy choice from all angles. IF out of pocket cost is the answer, it would be wise to remember that money comes and goes but that Clemson college experience last a lifetime. GO TIGERS.

maybe their family went there and they grew up chicken fans. Maybe USuCk has a major that they prefer that Clemson doesn't. Maybe cost is a factor. Maybe it's closer to home. Maybe they visited Clemson and they don't think the coach is a very good fit for them (since you did say any sport). If you're a top 10 player in women's basketball, which team would you rather play for right now?

... for in-state players, that logic sort of goes out the window.
Not always, but in by far the majority of the cases, a kid who grew up in South Carolina and whose family followed one team or the other will have been indoctrinated strongly enough that they will choose that team even if the other team either historically or currently (or both) appears to be the more logical selection.
And honestly, I think that's the way it should be. That's what created the rivalry and that's what keeps it going strong.
