Why isn't Ukraine as a sovereign nation allowed to protect themselves from Russia by joining NATO?
The Ukrainians must suffer to allow Russia feel better?

It's the end of the Cold War NATO should've been disbanded or at least take Russia in as a member like they asked. Things would be much better for everyone if that had happened.

World power that has attacked its neighbors in order to take over their country or portions of their country, and NATO membership continues to be proven as the only effective deterrent. That’s why Russia’s neighbors wish to join. It’s not the cool jackets.
The thing that should have been disbanded is Russia.

But that ship has sailed. That doesn't mean you start appeasing an autocratic Putin just because of the mistakes of the past.

We give them a long leash where they can get as nutty as they want and many people don't care. The alternative seems nuts. When we have men competing in women's sports, or outrageously cross dressers reading to kids, some supporting Hamas, DEI, calling freeways racist, talking about white privilege, or people like this pic below, it just makes it so they can say and do whatever they want. We make it so it doesn't matter.
