Let's just honest about this

The phrase really is Bama is the only team who could beat Clemson, not the other way around.
Bama still has Auburn (Clemson beat), U of L could/would beat Bama (Clemson beat) and Washington will (if they win out) give Bama fits.

KIcking is part of the game

DB's have to make plays, LB's and DL ,OL ,WR's RB's and QB's have to make plays.
Still don't know what play you were watching, but the kicker had no place to kick it on this play. He tried to hook it and it didn't hook

the point is that in a very real sense we didn't "beat" NCSU

they beat themselves.
When we played Okie and FSU the last two years,
we "beat" them - handily.
I don't expect Bama or Michigan or Washington
to beat themselves in the CFP.
Yes, special teams is part of the game,
but no matter how incompetent they are
you still expect opponents to make a 30-yd FG.
Hail, truly it could have been a High School team and you still expect them to make it.
I am only saying, "Don;t take credit for something you didn't do..."

Gallman out, easy explanation. Hypothetical but on paper that made a big difference.

agreed - hit should have been flagged too...

regardless, we should be able to toast NCSU without Gallman.
that team played inspired ball that day -
better than they really are -
but we didn't match their intensity.
we skated by one more time.
it will be something when we play our "perfect game".
yesterday wasn't it either - just a good warmup...

This is the point...the targeting play that knocked...

...Gallman out of the game, changed the entire dynamic of the game.
Yes, then next man has to step up, and they did. However, Dye cost Clemson a TD on the goal line that would have put the game into a different state. Dravious Wright who stripped that ball from Dye, should have been out of the game with the targeting call.
The Williams fumble was freaky and somewhat reckless on Mike's end.
Yes, Clemson could have easily lost that game, but with the turnovers this produced an anomaly that makes a great Clemson team into a questionable playoff contender, particularly in the eyes of Lewisville fans.

Same player that targeted Gallman is the one who stripped Dye on the goal line. Neither should have been a turnover, due to that player should have been ejected and the Gallman fumble picked up.

NCS' coach would be justified in saying the following:
Nov 6, 2016, 10:38 AM
[ in reply to the point is that in a very real sense we didn't "beat" NCSU ] |
|
'We beat ourselves when we didn't execute. Our kicking game beat us. I failed to recruit and develop a team which could make a run of the mill field goal. Our kicker let us down. Our offense didn't execute in overtime. I called the wrong play in overtime. Our QB threw a pic in overtime. Our receiver failed to be where he was supposed to be on that pick play in overtime. Our defense couldn't stop Clemson in overtime. We didn't play to our standards on either side of the ball in overtime.'
Or he could just KISS and say, 'Clemson was the better team.' What he couldn't say is, 'We beat them.'

there's any number of things he could have said about that game
but he barely shook Swinney's hand at midfield.
My only point is that that we did NOT control our own destiny that day -
no, a kicker from another team flat out choked from 30 yards out.
keep living like that for very long and you will see a different result.
that's not something we should be beating our chests about...

NCS' didn't recruit a kicker.
I have a question or two for you since I know this isn't your first season as a Clemson fan. Remember when Catman was a freshman? Remember losing three games because he couldn't hit a FG? Remember Dabo saying catman was the best practice kicker he'd ever seen?
I excused Dabo because he hadn't been given time to develop a kicker but I never claimed that we were better than the other team after the game was over. I guess you and I are different so you can say what you want without further contention from me.

yes, but don't take credit for winning by 30

if you didn't.
that's like Louisville saying they beat us,
or UNCheat saying they won the ACCG,
or Notre Dame saying they beat us in the hurricane,
or USuCk saying they beat the #1 team.
it's not just "ifs and buts"....
we gave up control of our own destiny that day.
if you can't see that, then your perspective might be a tad skewed.

beat us, but their kicker missed the field goal. It works both ways, but the result is the result.

For them to claim that they would have had to actually had a lead in the game at some point, which they didn't.

Clemson almost beat themselves...
and NCSU did beat themselves.
that's decidedly not the template for winning the Natty...

NCSU did not lose 4 turnovers and we all know that 2 of those would not have happened if the officials called the targeting foul on the Gallman hit.
