The Playoff saved us from an FSU vs Alabama title game,

but this system still doesn't ensure that the best team is involved in the playoff. OSU might have been this year, and they probably were, but we'll never know for certain.

TCU was #3 going into the final weekend, and then they won 55-3 in their final game before being left out. Then they beat #9 Ole Miss, the same Ole Miss team that beat Alabama, in the Cotton Bowl by a score of 42-3.

OSU was clearly the best team involved in the playoff, but I'm always going to wonder what TCU would have done had they been involved this year. I think 8 teams would make sure that a 1-loss Power 5 Conference would never be left out, which I think is important because OSU showed how irrelevant early season losses can be in terms of the overall strength of a team by the end of the season.

8 teams is too much. It just happened to be the first year there was controversy. It won't happen every year. 4 is perfect.
